Hi Guys,

Looking at a LGS at a new M & P Shield in 9mm. Really nice little gun, fits my hand well and looks thin enough for pocket carry. Tried the trigger and it seems fine. This is the model w/the safety, which is a feature I actually like. Comes w/2 mags, flush and extended.

They have it priced at $399.

Thoughts on the price?

If it's a performance center that's a good price. If it's the standard shield that's way too much. I bought a standard model for $299 with free shipping online.

$399 has been pretty much the standard price at gun stores. Thats what mine was 3 yrs back. You can find them online for much less now. I think Whittakers is $329 right now. Have not looked around, so someone could be better than that as well.

Bought mine last month on Gunbroker. $340 shipped to my FFL dealer.

Grabagun has them for $315 with around $8.00 shipping to an FFL. No tax either. I've bought a few guns through them and they have arrived in perfect condition. I have no financial interest in the company.

I am at $299 out the door in store. Both safety and no thumb safety.

Yup I concur with the general consensus that at $399 it should be the ported Performance Center Shield. IF so, that's in the ball park price wise. There are some internet gun sellers that are cheaper with free shipping, but after adding your local FFL cost at @$25-30 probably going to be higher priced than buying local.

But if that is for the standard Shield 9mm, its way too high. I just looked at slickguns.com and going rate for the standard is in the low $300's as all above me have stated. $319 looks like the average rate.

$399 a bit high but I know it's dependent on where your located. The dealers in my area are around the $350 - 370 mark. You can find better pricing online but I myself prefer to put my hands on it prior to buying. I have handled three different guns all of the same model and they had a slightly different feel in the trigger. I also like to look at the fit and finish of a gun prior to purchase.

Also as noted by wwit when buying online I there is always a transfer fee to consider.

Just my 2 cents for what it worth.

Thanks for the info guys.

It's not a PC model shield, just the "regular" model, black, 2 mags, thumb safety - $399.

I see they are $315 on grabagun. I'd sorta feel like a jerk ordering the same gun I was fawning over in the store and having it sent to the same exact store though.

With typical transfer fees and shipping, your price would go to about $350. Ask your LGS if they'll sell it to you for that price. A lot of gun stores will try to match the competition.

If you decide to buy from grabagun, try to find another FFL, otherwise your LGS' transfer fee might go to $85, saving you nothing.

Bought mine on Monday online from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore in Ohio for $329 shipped free and no CC fees. My FFL charged $15. A good total price I think.

Just like swsig said find an FFL dealer ask them how much to get one for you. I'm picking up my PC this weekend from FFL $420 OTD. He's FFL dealer not a LGS.

Look around. My FFL charges $25.00 and my LGS it's $30.00. So there are plenty of lower FFL prices out there. Don't feel like a jerk it's your money. Get it where you can get the best price. If they won't at least match it move on. They are not going to warranty it S & W is. Also as I said earlier the couple of guns I bought through Grabagun came in perfect condition. Not like a few guns I looked at my LGS that were beat up from everyone handling them that they were selling as new.

Ended up ordering online. Looking forward to the first range day.

I charge $20 with LEO and active Military FREE. As stated, ask what his Transfer fee is BEFORE you have a gun shipped to him. He may just work with you on one he has in stock. It's good to build a relationship with the Dealer, but as a consumer you have to do what's best for you. As far as shipping, that should only be $6-7 or so on a handgun. Good Luck!

Pricing

Been looking at getting a Shield. Went to a big gunshow in Atlanta today. Prices for the standard 9mm Shield were anywhere from $379 to $309 plus sales tax. Best I have been seeing on Slickguns has been $329 with minimal shipping costs and then a local FFL transfer fee of $25. Bought the one today for $309 plus tax. All in all a good day. Now to order me a Vedder or Cooks holster and some Talon grips.
