I have an M&P Shield which I love. I am looking for those times when I might just be running to the store or taking my kids somewhere real quick and I don't feel like putting the pants or shorts on with my belt and holster. I have decided that I think I would like to go with one or the other as just a pocket carry for those short trips. I know the M&P Bodygaurd is just now coming out any maybe no one has one to give out some info on. I know a lot of people have good reviews on the LCP. So Im just looking for some reviews and advice on both the guns to help me decide which one to go with. Thanks for your help.

I just got the M&P 380. shot 50 or so rounds today.
no issues fired and ejected every time. in fact my son was 8 feet behind me and the shells were ejecting straight too him.
but the trigger pull is very very longggggg
I like it but wish it was a striker fire like the shield
Galloway makes a trigger kit for it. I may do that
But the stock trigger is terrible, and I heard the lcp is the same

If you are looking for a pocket gun with a nice stock trigger look at the Taurus TCP 738.

The one down side to the weapon is the sights are not that great but at $199 at Sportsman it is hard to beat if you are looking for a poacket rocket.

The BG 380 makes a great BUG or pocket carry alternate for the Shield. Same manual of arms and locks back after last round just like the Shield. Feels better in my hand than the LCP. I've got the original BG, but the M&P version would be my pick today.

I Started with an LCP and it stung my hand after about fives shots. Sold it and bought a Body guard. Love it , much much better for me to shoot. Just my two cents

I have an LCP. I think it's a great grab & go gun. I've shot about 700 rounds through it without a problem. I have a 1st gen. The sights have a little to be desired. The newer ones are supposed to have better sights. It's not supposed to be a range toy. It's an in you face point & shoot gun.

I never fired a S&W Bodyguard, but I have an LCP and love it. It had a laser, but I removed it after it blinked off a few times and much prefer the more streamlined look and feel. (I don't really care for laser sights and the inconsistent reliability proved my worries to be warranted). The LCP fits very easily in my front or back pocket and I forget it's even there. I have about 200 trouble free rounds through it and have been surprisingly accurate at about 25'. I rarely jump into a new design, but will probably look into the new bodyguard after the newness and demand wears off and the bugs are worked out (if there proves to be any).

I like the appeal of the weight and dimension of the 380 but the ammo is hard to find even at 45 auto prices.

I realize initially the Sig P938 is more but the operating cost is less shooting 9 mm and it is between the weight of the Body Guard and Shield.

Just something to consider.

I have yet to handle a M&P .380, but did own a BG .380.

I started out with an LCP. I later traded for the BG because I liked the BG's grip better and it was less snappy in my hand (due to the grip).

The trigger of the BG wasn't as good. In fact, my wife could not accurately fire it because the trigger was so long and hard. By the time the trigger broke she was way off target.

I got rid of the .380 entirely and picked up a Sig P938. Not much bigger and it has a great trigger. Dead on accurate.

However, the Sig IS a tad heavier and is a little bigger, which makes it just slightly less convenient to carry in certain situations. It's a rarity but is has happened.

So... I decided to pick up another pocket .380 and went back to the LCP. If it some reason the Sig or 642 won't do, the LCP can fill in.

The LCP's trigger is much better than the BG's, especially the newest generation of LCP. If S&W would do something for that awful trigger they would have a winner.

Just go to a gun shop and ask them if you can dry fire the LCP and get a feel for it.. New model no has no - dash in ther Ser. # and it will have all the inprovements.. I think your going to like it! George

Thanks for the info so far. I think Im leaning towards the LCP only for the fact that I want the smallest pocket gun I can get to just throw in my pocket and go, especially during the summer time. Its not going to be a range gun, so I can handle the snappiness of a couple shots if needed in a self defense situation. Pretty sure I wouldn't even notice lol. But Ive heard it is hard to get .380 ammo right now. Is that the case?

>380 is not to bad to find and cost is lower then .45 ammo in 100 round boxes.. I would not worry about that for your CCW .. But then you could also step up to a LC9 in 9mm about a 1/2" bigger but it's a nice choice #2 to go with your LCP and go well togother.. Trust me I know. We have two LC9's and a LCP for when really small is needed! Can't go wrong! George

Thanks George. I looked at the LC9 before I bought my shield. Very nice gun, but I have my shield for my EDC, so no need for a LC9, Im just looking for a small .380 to grab and go for when I won't be gone long on those trips to the store, or to take my kids to and fro. But thanks for the info on the ammo. I hope I can find some if I do end up getting a 380.

You will need a pocket holster. If you don't have a holster it will flip around in your pocket. Then if you need it, it won't be in the correct postion to draw.

WallMart has .380 Winchester WB flat point target loads in 100 count for $38 where I live that is high but not to bad.. they also have 50 round boxes for $14.99 of RNFMJ with brass cases. Tons of CC ammo HP's of all kinds for about the same price as any other cal. $20 for 20 to 25 rounds. Cheap enough for carry.. Good luck I think your going to be happy with your choice.. I just like guns and have more then one cal. in the same size gun or larger or smaller. if I like it and can buy it I do.. Good luck and be safe! George

I just went through this same decision - I felt the need for a pocket .380 for when I didn't want to carry the Shield or something bigger.

I looked at:

* Ruger LCP
* S&W Bodyguard
* Taurus TCP
* Kahr CW-380

I didn't care for the ergonomics or trigger pull of the Bodyguard at all. The Kahr was interesting, but my hand shape makes for a really tight trigger guard. I liked the Taurus but their reputation for aftersales support scared me off - having to pay for warranty shipping bothers me.

I ended up ordering one of the new stainless slide LCPs - it should be here this week.

TCP has the smoothest trigger I've ever pulled. Love mine.

The Taurus I had years ago was a PT99 AF in 9mm and loved it, never a issue and I shot the heck out of it.. Sold it and kicked myself.. I don't sell my guns off any more but that's another story.. But was getting to the Taurus small pocket type guns of now.. I heard also that they had maney issued and Taurus service was now usless.. I never used them years ago but did send them a note asking for a PT99 Manual and they got that right to me fast. Ruger is or has been good with there service you don't need to go far from your computer to find that out. S&W is great too I got free parts sent to me even for my used S&W gun a Gen 3 6906. Maybe it all depens on who you talk too .. George

I also have the Taurus PCT 738 its a pile of Junk
The trigger is better then my BG 380 but it FTE and FTF all the time.there are mods to correct these issues, but Im not sure what I will do with the gun. Plus it kicks like a Mule

I did shoot a Sig P238 yesterday Nice trigger and nice recoil.
I just wish it was lighter (its 15oz)
The weight was one reason I bought the Taurus
