M&P Bodygaurd vs LCP

I have a feeling that price was WITH the trade in!

Nope, $299 was the sale price, it had nothing to do with the trade in. I actually traded in several guns I no longer wanted, they were taking up valuable space in the safe. ;)

Just got my 3rd bodyguard. Thought the 1st one was off so I bought another one. The Galloway trigger kit is a MUST for these guns. My 3rd bodyguard arrived acouple days ago. Looks a lot better than the ones with the laser. My only complaint is you have to push the mag release in to put a mag in the gun. Trigger is the same in the M&P model as the non M&P so going to order another Galloway trigger.

I loved my LCP. I could use it with a homemade vanguard-style holster and belt clip to carry inside my shorts while running or biking, slip into suit pockets, etc. Unfortunately some yahoo offered me a fullsized NIB M&P45 for my LCP, so I made that trade. I like my 638 alot, but it really only goes with me when I'm wearing something a little baggier (and I still have NO idea how people pocket carry this in normal people pants). I'll also say I shot better with the LCP than any J frame besides the magical 3" 36-1, and 7rds of 380 is nothing to sneeze at.

Plus, yaknow, it let me wear my nice fitted shirts and pants that make my butt look nice. Vanity comes at a price :D

Unfortunately?

I'd make that trade every day of the week and twice on Sunday! Not that I'm putting the LCP down, but considering cost...a NEW M&P 45 for a used LCP is rather...one sided. Of course, a good trade is one in which both parties are satisfied...and I'd be VERY satisfied with a trade like that! :)

Yeah. I've never liked smiths semi options, but I couldn't turn it down at that price. Traded it for a 14-2 if I remember right, so it worked out.

My new M&P BG had the magazine insertion issue as well. I think it is an injection molding flashing issue on the release. Slightly depress the release and insert and remove the magazine over and over. After 50 or 60 times I could push the magazine in without depressing the release. It was still tight, but getting better. Since then I have slammed the magazine home a few dozen times and it has loosened up even more.

If you have a trigger shoe that you are not using, you might want to give it a try on your BG380.Sure helps with that long trigger pull.

****UPDATE**** I just got my LCP yesterday. I really like it. Cant wait to shoot it and give it a try. Hope it is what I expect and want it for. Any Holster and SD Ammo advice would be awesome! Thanks for everyones advice and info. I appreciate it.

I have a Kahr CW 380 and an LCP. The Kahr is a little more expensive but I like it better than the LCP. The Kahr is shorter lengthwise but taller thru the grip. The Kahr's trigger is a little better than the LCP, has better sights, and the slide locks open when you empty the magazine. It's my usual carry in a back pocket holster with jeans. My LCP is the older model; the newer ones have better sights and (supposedly) a better trigger. I haven't tried the BG but the Kahr and the LCP are both good pocket guns.

I looked at the S&W .380, and the Ruger. I ended up buying a Walther PPK & PPK/S. Like them both a lot.

Congratulations on your excellent choice. I pocket carry using a DeSantis Nemesis. As far as SD ammo, you will most likely get numerous different recommendations, but I like Hornady 380 Auto 90 gr Critical Defense.

Sure hope you went with the new LCP with stainless slide instead of the cheap version with a blued slide. If you bought the blued slide then you should use Eezox on the slide to prevent rust.

Most 380 pocket pistols have lower quality than small single stack 9mm guns.

The Taurus TCP suffers from a substandard trigger design:
The Problem with the Taurus TCP - YouTube

And so what if the S&W Bodyguard now has an M&P version. The gun is still made with a cheap MIM barrel.

I carried a Walther .380 back in the 70s for work....when Colt started advertising their .380 Mustang early last year I wanted one, but couldn't find any so wound up with both a Sig P238 and P938. Couldn't decide which one I liked better so bought them both. Then Beretta started advertising the PICO and I wanted one...but again, none to buy (what's with advertising non-existent guns?). Local gun shop had a Glock 42 last month and I agonized about a week before I bought it. Still want a Pico if they ever actually make them. Have handled the BG but something about the way it felt wasn't right for me....and not much point in a red laser in the daylight....so passed. Put 100 rounds through the G42 and they all came right back to my face until I rotated the gun 45 degrees to the right and shot gangster style... May just go back and look at that Bodyguard again.

Riverkilt, in my opinion, if the Pico is not shipping by June then we will probably never see it. It's funny how the 14-month looming introduction of the Pico forced S&W, Ruger and Taurus to update their 380 pistol lines. Ruger updated the LCPs trigger, sights and then later on introduced a stainless slide while S&W introduced a M&P version of the Bodyguard and Taurus introduced a white version of the TCP.

Didnt get the stainless. I ended up doing a trade for it. It was brand new and yes it is the updated model just not the stainless. I am very meticulous about cleaning and taking care of my gun so I'm not too worried about the rust. I like it a lot and it is going to serve my purpose for exactly what I wanted which is when I'm just running out and about somewhere real quick and I don't feel like putting on my pants or cargo shorts with my belt and holster I can just throw this little guy in my pocket and go and that's exactly what I was looking for so I am very happy with the LCP. I guess now I just need to decide whether I'm going to use a hollow point or a full metal jacket round with this little guy. I've been doing a lot of reading that state you should use and FMJ with a 380. Any opinions on this?

Shootingthebull410 on you tube has several reviews of 380 hollow points through the Taurus TCP 768 with a 2.75 inch barrel. After watching his reviews I ordered Precision ONe hollow points with the XTP bullet. My Bodyguard is a little finicky with Blazer Brass, but it ate the Precision ONe 100%.

Enjoy your Ruger, they're very nice firearms.

Bob.

M&P Bodyguard $355

got one today.....traded my BG380 with laser in for the non-laser version. the trigger feels lighter ,I'm told it's 10.5 lbs. now and i believe it feels that....the old one w/laser had a horrible12-14 lb trigger.
the slide is stainless steel now w/melonite finish. i like the M&P subdued dark lettering w/no white outlines anymore
the old one was carbon steel w/blued finish/white lettering
the new one is a little heavier .....must be the stainless that =more weight?

I...must...resist. I'm tempted to get one of these M&P 380's. I have a LCP and have no complaints, but I...must...resist.

Resistance is futile.
