M&P Lubrication

excess grease runs when it gets hot just like in a skillet .. and a pistol can get quite hot when firing it .. fine coat of oil off a Q-tip and it won't leak anywhere ..

I've been using Frog Lube the last few years .. and like it .. but I use lit ike oil .. using a Q-Tip with a drop on it .. wipe over oil points .. you really need very little as long as you don't let it set for months without firing .. If that is the case a heavier lube job should be done !!

I use Royal Purple and my philosophy is "less is more" :)

+1 on Frog Lube. You heat the gun up and then apply liberally to the entire gun. Wipe off any excess and let it dry. After that, all I do is wipe it down and run a BoreSnake through it from time-to-time.

I use Slip 2000 oil and a little Tetra grease on the barrel and wipe off. both are great lubes. Everyone has there own way and a little goes a long way

The most important thing is what you're doing right now: cleaning and lubricating regularly, especially after you get some range time. If you continue to do that, your firearm will last forever.

Break Free CLP was issued in the Marines, so we didn't have any say in the matter. I still use it because it is good at what it does and won't break my budget. I'll use Hoppe's #9 for the tough stuff, and the CLP for the rest.

Over the last few years there has been an explosion in the number of oils and greases for weapons. Some may be an improvement over older stuff. But others, like Fire Clean, are repackaged canola (snake) oil. Most, ounce for ounce, are pretty expensive.

There are some exceptions. If you want to store a gun for the long term, for example, that needs a different oil/grease.

My M1 Garand must have grease because of the lengthy contact points along the op-rod/receiver/bolt.

But the M&P doesn't have that problem. It was designed to function with no grease and little oil. The frame rails on the M&P are self-clearing, so any dirt or debris is pushed out of the way as the weapon fires.

What your instructor may be concerned about is grease that is flung out and back from the pistol as the slide cycles. That grease could end up on your safety glasses or in your eyes.

If you go with oil just get one of the precision oilers or better yet a 3 pack off Amazon as you will find them to be very handy. They are basically and eye dropper with a needle but work great.

As for lubes you can't go wrong with Shooter's Choice FP-10 or for that matter the whole SC line is great and don't let their Aquacleaner fool you into thinking its weak, that stuff works great.

If you like grease go with the Mil-Comm line, TW25b and use only with the other Mil-Comm products.

I use Outers Choke Tube and Gun Grease from Walmart on my S&W M&P fullsize 45 acp and all my semi auto handguns actually, it stays put well and the guns have all functioned flawlessly every single time I have shot them. And it looks like there is very little wear on the guns on all the metal to metal contact points of the rails and slide and barrel hood areas. I used to use oil but switched to grease and like grease much better in my opinion, especially for long term storage or for carrying purposes. I also like the price of the Outers Gun Grease and its a nice size tube of it that lasts along time as well.
