At least I think that is what I have but it's a bit odd.

Serial# 505675 all serials match.

5-screw.

5" barrel.

Small S&W logo on the left side.

Made in U.S.A. on right side.

Smith & Wesson on left of barrel.

.38 S&W Special Ctg. on the right of barrel.

Smooth trigger face.

Fitwell fake stag grips.

Ramped and serrated front sight with square notch rear.

I'm thinking it might have went through a re-blue long ago as the trigger and hammer are blued.

It easily has the slickest M&P action I've seen, and I own a few of them.

It's the sights I'm wondering about.....The front ramp looks professionally done but I don't see any indication that it went back to S&W for the work.

I have $300.00 in it but I'm a sucker for 5" barrels and the slick action sold me on it. ;)

From the description and just the one photo, I think you called it right. 1905 4th Change, reblue with the front sight altered. $300 doesn't seem out of line, so I think ya done good.

It is from about 1924-25, probably 1925.

The front sight has either been modified or replaced. From what you wrote, it sounds like they did a good job of it, but it didn't leave the factory that way.

Nice example, especially for the price.

Thanks.

Yeah the sight alteration seems to have been popular back in the day. I have a S&W US M1917 that was done the same way except it was also converted to .45 LC.
