M&P or Glock?

As a Glock armorer of 11 years buy a M&P. Glocks are good guns but the M&P is better.

Wow! Now that is saying a lot. What led you to that conclusion. I have both and like the M&P a tad better because it feels good in my hand.

Until I purchased a M&P 9 full size, my favorite polymer framed semi-auto's were a Glock 17 & 19 Gen4.

The more I shoot the M&P, the less inclined I am to keep the Glocks.

I have 3 Glock's in 9mm and an M&P 45. I won't be getting rid of my Glocks, I love shooting and carrying them! But i do also love my M&P 45, I had a G21 and traded it for the M&P. I prefer it ergo wise and I am finding that it shoots very well. My wife's only gun is an M&P 9mm, she loves it! Nothing wrong with enjoying both. :)

Glock all the way. I have 3 Glocks, G21, G23, G26 and all are fantastic. I looked at M&P before I purchased an H&K and haven't looked back. I thought the M&P was nice, but the H&K and Glocks were superior.

M&P. Coming from a former. Glock owner

I havent had one malfunction with my m&p40fs. Thousands and thousands of rounds through it. 100% reliable. Carried out in the open, rained on, snowed on, dust storms, banged on chairs and desks, and caught on car doors daily. 100% reliable. The deputies i work with are just getting the new glocks. They seem to be happy with them.

Chevy vs ford, preference and experience matter.

Joe,

I was just like you. I looked at the M&P and thought Glocks were superior. It wasn't until I shot a M&P that I realized what I was missing.

All of a sudden, the Glock Kool-Aid doesn't taste as sweet.

In the 9mm i prefer Glock. In .45 the M&P. While the factory mag in the M&P 45 holds 10 rounds as opposed to the 13 in Glock it makes up for it in width. The M&P 45 is only a hair wider than the G19/17

Both the Glock and M&P are great weapons, just different.

I've owned & shot Glocks for many years, and once getting familiar with them, I sold off everything else. Their reliability is without question, and that sold me. Over 5000 round thru my G17 and I've NEVER had a failure of any kind.

Along comes the M&P and I like it so much that I buy a FS9. I like the ergonomics better and it points to a more natural aim for me. But, it starts to give me problems. Five different ammo types and I'm getting feed jams after 100 rounds. It stops way short of going into full battery. I can smack the back of the slide and get it going, so I'm wondering why this is happening.

I finally realized that the M&P needs better lubrication than I'm used to using on my Glocks. It just struck me one day, and I tried some Wilson's grease type lube (the white stuff I use on my .45's) The M&P went 200 rounds without a problem. I even tried to jam it up by mixing ammo types and running it pretty hot.

Lesson learned. M&P's need to be well lubed, at least better than a Glock. That gives an edge to the Glock in reliability dept., but I still bought an M&P9C too.

I never liked the looks of Glocks and stayed away from them until a year ago when I saw a G 27 Gen 4. My lgs dealer had ordered a Beretta PX4 SC .40 and when I came in for it he asked if I wanted a Glock. I did not want it but then he said I could get a big discount because of my LE status. At that price I figured I could sell it if it did not do anything for me. The Baby G 27 is the only one that remotely looked like it was worth taking home. I rarely use it but it is part of my collection and the wife will not touch it at all. She likes FN's. My only experience with the M&P was when my cousin got his CC permit and since he is a lefty, I did some research and showed him what was available for lefties. The M&P is one of the few which is truly ambi including the slide lock. The first time out with it he lost the white dot on his front sight which plagues the M&P line and it shoots slighly high right for four different shooters. Two weeks ago my wife purchased the new Shield for me. I am pleased with it. I got the 9mm because a Taurus Slim fills my .40 needs in that size gun. My glock does not impress and my S&W is nice but they will be the only of their kind in my stable. My Beretta's, Ruger's, and FN's still satisfy my needs.

I have had several Glocks, in 9mm and 40, in three different frame sizes and three generations. They fascinate me somehow, but I always felt something was missing. I recently bought a M&P40c, and I feel like it's what the Glock should have been. The trigger is crisper, has a better feel, and the overall ergonomics are an order of magnitude better than the Glock. There may be another one or two in my future.

Had a Glock of some sorts for over 15 years. My wife recently got an M&P9c, and after taking her out to shoot it, I fell in love with it. Had to have one of my own, so I traded the 19 for it. Probably won't go back to the Glock....

I own 3 Glock's a 36, 19, and a 33 (same as a 26&27 in 357 Sig)
I like all 3 and have had 0 probs. I just got the M&P Shield and although I haven't been able to shoot it yet(back went out) I love how it fits my hand & it's looks, in fact the M&P's are a better looking gun IMO. I admit the M&P's fit the hand way better & when cash allows I might look into a M&P 9 Compact. I really like it too. It is very disappointing that Glock's 4th gen seems to be having some probs in certain models. Both are proven & will get the job done, but for Glock I'd stay with a gen 3 just because it seems more true to the orig design.

It's funny that people who think Glock fans have never shot an M&P. On the contrary, I have shot several caliber M&Ps and still feel the Glock is superior. If I could afford it, I would own all H&Ks. It's not just the name but the superior design and build of the gun. I do have older S&W Revolvers and feel there is no better maker than S&W for this type of gun.

Ok,so just as S&W copied some Glock features in the beginning, now the tables have turned and Glock is copying S&W. I'm guessing S&W can't/won't sue Glock? Did S&W make some kind of a deal with Glock back when the lawsuit was filed? If not,it's good to see Glock has something to worry about now and is doing anything it can to keep up!

Well the HK P2000 with replaceable backstraps was release 4 years before the MP....so....

Quote from another form:

Many of the Glock "firsts" were based on other earlier models by other companies.

The Remington Nylon 66 was the first polymer firearm, long before Glocks were introduced.

Heckler and Koch VP70 made the first striker fired polymer firearm in 1970, a full 10 years before Glock produced one.

The trigger safety on the Glocks was first found on the Iver Johnson's Arms and Cycle Works revolvers in the early 1900's.

There really are very few truly new things under the sun in the firearms industry.

Of course John Browning's design is the basis of our modern semi auto's.

I don't like Glocks. I don't visit any Glock forums. I don't care what is going on over there. I don't feel that it is necessary to go there and verbalize how much better the M&P is than Glock. Why do glockites feel they must come here and recruit.

I've been a Glock Armorer for several years and own a G27 (my EDC until the Shield .40 came along), G23, G17, G36, and G21. Also own a M&P .45 that I had to send back to Smith for an extractor adjustment, out of the box.

I never had a failure or issue with a Glock since I've owned one, 12 years with the G27. The M&P .45 has a horrid trigger IMO, especially after shooting a Glock. My G21 .45 with tac light is my home defense primary gun.

Now the Shield .40 comes along, great feel, reliable, excellent trigger out of the box, and manageable recoil. My old G27 now is second team to the Shield...Unless I have to go to a big city, then the G27 with a G23 mag gets the nod.
