Hey guys I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi. I just ordered the m&p shield 40 and just wanted to hear you guys thoughts on it. Is it a wise decision and also does anyone reload shells for it and if so what's the best recipe you guys use. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. I don't have a Shield, but have put a few rounds thru one a friend has, also a 40. I thought it handled better than a Glock 27. My friend has not complained about any problems with the gun. If you get one, remember to clean and lube it before hitting the range and break it in with FMJ first. I haven't reloaded firbyears and am not really a 40 fan, but there is plenty of good data. Get you a reloading manual with data for the 40.I. one thing with all M&Ps, the trigger is gritty out of the box. Cleaning, good lube, and dry fire will all help smooth it out, but the grit is usually gone after the first 200 rounds.

Love my Shield 40. Needed to learn a few things about the gun but to date I love this little gun. Bought it in September and have about 1500-2000 rounds through it so far with no problems.

I have a Shield in 40, I load 165 TMJ with Auto-Comp, they shoot great, and there pretty clean.

Welcome from Texas and congrats on the Shield .40. Don't reload, so can't help ya there, but mine has been problem free with about 7 different types of ammo. Have fun and be safe.

I like mine a lot but haven't seen it in over a month due to getting it Cerakoted and sights installed. It is my primary carry gun.

Its been my carry for the last year. Sweet!

No issues after 600 rounds so far at the range.

Good Luck

Welcome! I like my shield .40. I have found mine to be very accurate with my handloads. I enjoy shooting it so much that I plink with it. I did not expect it to be so accurate with the short barrel. It seems to like 165 grain Berry's, Extreme, or Rainier for practice. VV N320 makes for a nice shooting accurate load. Just pay close attention to your brass condition and pay attention to details when loading for the shield. Snappy caliber in a small package. In my opinion the room for error is smaller here. I do not shoot max reloads out of the shield. I save those for larger framed guns.

Thanks for the replies. I feel like just by what you guys were saying about the shield I made the right choice. Any recommendations on holsters? Thanks

Just picked up my new shield 40 a couple weeks ago and love it. I don't reload so I know nothing there but my shield is carry weapon of choice. Love it.

The 40 shield is my primary carry. I do reload for it, using cast lead and unique powder. My favorite holster is the dual carry from MTR Custom Leather. It is a tuckable IWB that converts to pancake style when you want to carry OWB.
