Hi everyone! batman66 here. I am new to this. I never was in a forum so not really sure how to do this. But i have a question. I just bought the M&P Shield 9 and was told it was not much better than the Nano. Is this misinformation?

Hi Batman
You did it correctly. Congrats on the new pistol and welcome to the Forum from Mass.

Shoot the pistol. If you like it, you did good. If you like it a lot, you did great. Let someone else think the Nano is better.

Thanks. I plan on shooting asap. I have about 500 rounds i can run through it. Is this too much for the first time or should i only run a couple hundred thou it at a time?

A Nano isn't even close to a Shield, someone is just mess'n with ya. All the early bugs have been worked out..ENJOY!!;)

Both are good guns, but the Nano I had was a little top heavy. It felt funny in my hands, but it did shoot well. My nephew has the Shield 9mm, and after I shot it once, I did like it better than the BU-9. JMHO.

I can't comment on the Nano but there are plenty of bad reports to read on most any gun...Nano and Shield included...some is sound observation but most is slanted opinion.

Take your Shield and shoot away! If it's new it will probably run like a top right out of the box (cleaned and lubed first!) but like all new autos it may take a box or two of ammo to "break it in" a bit. Here's a recent thread that you've probably read but should put you at ease. We expect a range report and pictures or it didn't happen! ;)

Welcome

My 9mm Shield is my EDC -- I trust it with my life!

BTW: Innuendo in Italian is Preparation H :D

Welcome to the Forum from North Carolina. I love my Shield 9mm. Congrats!!

I was curious because i had a lot of FTE's with my Nano. I was hoping it would work itself out but it didn't. I saw where it had a recommended gr. of 124. But I feel I shouldn't have to go out of my way to buy a certain round. If it is a 9mm it should shoot 9mm rounds no matter what grain. So I sold it and bought the Shield.

There a quite a few Shield vs Nano vids on Youtube. Have a look.

I have a Shield in 9mm. So far it's not had a problem with 115gr, but I prefer to shoot 124gr in all my 9's. Check out Freedom Munitions. High quality and very good prices. They have a free shipping sale this weekend. I've shot 1000's of 9mm and .45ACP without issue.

batman66--This past Friday the Talon "granulate" grips I ordered arrived. They are just what I wanted. To me they make the Shield easier to "hold on to" since it's a small frame. JMHO. By the way, I would hate to see you ruin your new Shield by shooting all 500 rounds of ammo so I'll help you if you send me about half I will be glad to shoot them for you. Enjoy your Shield. As of late it's been the only firearm that I shoot now!

I feel the Shield is far better than the nano but that's just my opinion. I tend to be biased toward S&W but in the few encounters I've had with nanos I was not impressed. Great guns just didn't do anything for me. I am excited to shoot my shield. I can burn threw 200 rounds in no time at all with my shield. one of those guns that just beg to be shot. Enjoy the gun my friend. :)

I have tried the granulated grips on my other pistols but I tend to like the rubber talon grips a little better.

Well, I shot the M&P 9 and had no problems at all with the ejecting. The only issue was not really an issue at all. Sometimes it would not lock back after last round. I was looking to shoot 500 rounds but only shot 100 after hunting all day with my son. the 9 performed great! I bought my son the M&P .40 as an early Christmas gift and he had 2 FTE's in 50 rounds. Anyone else experiencing this. Also should he "break it in" more?

Hey Batman,
I'm betting you're right. It may take a little more breaking in to correct the extractor issue on the .40. I'd check to make sure the extractor is clean and lube up the gun good before the next range visit. I've read in other posts that the slide lock problem on the 9MM may be as easy adjusting your grip to make sure your hand is not in the way of the slide lock. Sounds like another range trip is in order and congratulations on the new Shield. I'm certainly happy with mine!

I have both a Nano and a Shield. I like both guns. Personally, I cannot say that one is better than the other.

I do like the way that the Shield feels in my hand better. The Nano carries a little better-it is smaller and thinner.

I shoot both guns well and have had no problems with either one.
