I called the customer service department and they said that they would issue a call tag in 24 hours or less. And they DELIVERED! Took the firearm to FedEx and the service center received it on 6/11. I contacted the service center and had the pleasant experience of working with Jennie Bergeron. We communicated by e-mail and she kept me informed as to the status on the firearm. Smith and Wesson decided to replace the barrel. Needless to say my wife and I are VERY HAPPY with the service. They also gave us an new eight shot mag for our troubles. Based on the service we received, I would most definitely buy another Smith and Wesson product WITHOUT RESERVATION. By the way, we picked up the firearm today. Jennie can be reached at 800 331-0852 x 4125 or JeBergeron@smith-wesson. com. Smith and Wesson thank you very much!!!

Pretty quick turnaround. Nice

S&W customer service is superb. I waited about a month once but no biggie, I got some freebies too for the wait :)

Everyone talks about Glock customer service but S&W has always been first class in my opinion. They recently did some work on a PPS of mine and, although it did take a while, the work was flawless.

I wonder how Ms. Bergeron is related to Joe Bergeron, the man in charge of pistol production at S&W?

S&W Service not good

I sent my Shield back 52 days ago. After 30 they sent it saying it was Ok. Still would not lock the slide back so it went back to them June 1 still no word. The gun fired out of battery and I think it warped the frame. If I ever get it back I will dump it on someone else and buy Colts. Vintage Colts that is so I know I have something I can count on. So beware of used Shields it might be the loser I had//////

I copied that e-mail exactly, and got an error message - three times - that it wasn't a valid e-mail address.

I thought I was nuts [and maybe I am] or the world's poorest marksman [and maybe I am]. Just to check my sanity and marksmanship, I asked one of the pros at the shop to shoot my M&P Shield. He cane up with the same result - it shot extremely high and very wide to the left. The shop adjust the front sight, and it move POI about halfway from where it had been to where it should be. After the second front sight adjustment, it shot dead on [at seven yards - who knows what it will do when I lengthen the range].

The front sight now looks visibly off center to the left.

What would cause this anomaly? What, if anything, can be done about it?

If you do sell or trade it, I hope you fully disclose the history of the gun...would you really want someone to "dump" a bad gun on you?

I agree 100%

Integrity first......always

The "get mine" and "me first" mentality sickens me, and is why our country is beginning to go down the drain

There are still people that will buy it, even if it has known issues

dont let your integrity be sold for ANY price

+1. If I were one of the Forum members who purchased any of the 4 guns he has sold in the classifieds, I would certainly take a closer look. Same for the barrel or holsters.

Whatever the unknown defect is, it probably can be fixed. Someone will buy for the price that allows them to fix it.

+++ on the integrity. There's no price high enough to sell that.

When customer service is poor, find the person up the ladder who can deal with it. Be persistent. Not every customer service representative does his/her job equally as well.

I would add that SW customer has been awesome

(i had a spring issue on a mag, which they replacedand sent an extra)

Here is my 1st experience with Smith CS
After 500 flawless rounds I detail stripped my .40 Shield and found that the plastic sleeve on the striker assembly raked at the base. Found that calling Smith CS about the Shield is an exercise in futility. They have no clue about the gun. Parts list is not available, they cannot answer a question about this gun intelligently.
I called 3 times asked 3 different people in CS about this they did not know squat.
I took a chance and ordered a 9/40 striker assembly from Brownells exchanged emails with Dan Burwell, great guy, and he told me it would fit. Said all 9/40 striker assemblies fit the shield.
Got the assembly 30 minutes ago and it does fit and functions perfectly. Also installed the Apex hard sear and trigger block , trigger pull has dropped to about 4 lbs and smooth as silk. More take up but almost no over travel.
Hope this helps someone else looking for answers that Smith can't won't provide. Saved me 3 to 4 weeks being without my Shield.

I bought a 5906 back in 1989. In the last couple months it started to FTE a couple times per box, didn't matter the brand. S&W sent me a mailing label a week and a half ago and I got a call from FedX today that it will be delivered back to me tomorrow. We'll see what they did but they didn't hesitate to look at it under warrantee after 23 years.

With my full size M&P 9mm, I took a different route - I called one of the service centers. I spoke with the actual individual that would provide the service. Worked perfectly - slicker 'n wet ice.

I have only had 120% with CS. They have also sent me two free mags for some minor issues.

Not every gun is for all. Maybe this is just a gun you can't shoot well. The shield I have shoots 4 inch groups at 20 yards.
