M&P Shield breech face issue?

Mine has similar marks. I have yet to fire it and this is what it looks like:

Regarding the CS email. I emailed Smith and Wesson about a firearms manual that I didn't get with my M&P15 300 Whisper. To be honest about it, I'd forgotten all about it until I read the part about emailing S&W CS. I never heard from them, nor did I receive a manual. I'll be calling them tomorrow on that.

Call them. That's what I always do and I get immediate responses. They even sent me FREE extension finger plates for my M&P9c two years ago.

Looks like a dull cutter that needed replacement but wasn't-cutters cost $. My M&P 45 has those divots and cutting marks all over the slide. Since it's only cosmetic and doesn't affect it's reliability, I chose to keep it as is, even though a LE customer rep at a S&W sponsored shoot tried everything to get it from me for a slide replacement.

I was wondering if either of the two photo'd with breech face pitting, or anyone that has this, could ad this to their post in the serial number thread if they have posted in there.

Also curious if the two photo'd pistols on here could take a picture of the inside of their slide, the part that would cover the barrel when pistol is assembled. It would show the marks that identify which machine the slide was produced on. Those little random drill looking marks.

S/N: DXE15XX

I'm too lazy to take another picture of the slide at the moment but it has 3 divots in the barrel portion if that's what you are referring to. Let me know if the pattern carries any significance and I'll get a picture.

Well, the pattern tells what machine the slide was built on. Just curious if the two slide photo'd here had the same pattern.

Thanks, be interesting to see a picture from AndrewS.

tg, you might attach that photo to your information in this post here

The little dimples in the slide (as shown in AndrewS' post) are some kind of code at S&W. Which machine did the work, perhaps.

Too small to put stuff in :D....

(You do know that an "innie" belly button is for storing salt while eating celery in bed? :D)

The shape of the firing pin hole in the breech would bother me if it hadn't been there from the beginning. I don't think anybody said.

I wouldn't worry about the ding in the breech face, though. That section of the slide is seriously solid. I still worry about the effect on the rear face of a casing, and the friction effect might cause a timing problem. Put that down under "really unlikely" :)

Regards,

The shape of the firing pin hole is by design so that doesn't bother me.

The marks on the breech face don't appear to impact the functionality of the gun so that's not the issue. I'm more concerned that if I should ever try to sell it that it may become an issue with the buyer. Basically, I don't want to take a hit due to a manufacturing issue some time down the road if I don't have to.

I did email S&W CS but never got a response so I filled out the online form for a Return Authorization and haven't heard anything back on that either. I'll give it a couple of days to see if the shipping label shows up.

Hadn't thought about the resale aspect. I just sell 'em dirty :D....

But letting S&W fix that may be a good idea on that basis.

I've never had to deal with their CS so I can't say on issues there, but what I'm seeing on the board is that they're pretty good about things.

(I also rarely sell a gun.... As you know, if you put 'em in the safe and leave the lights off, they tend to multiply, and I don't want to break up anything :D.)

Always call them and speak with a tech to get immediate results. You might have a long hold, after all the CS has to deal with all of the so called *battery issues* :(

The ATF loves this, helps them ID the firearm to the cases left at the scene. If they were all perfect, they would have a hard time doing a match!

We are living in the age of throw away consumers. Nothing is made to last forever. As, I have said on the forums, I dont think currently made plastic frame and stamped metal parts will last like the old well make pistols of the past. New ones just seem cheap when comparing them to older weapons. I may be wrong, but that is the way I see it.
