I want to upgrade to a quad rail fore-end... any suggestions?

15x

I just ordered an x, picking it up this weekend at gunshow, i payed $1000 for it. is this a good deal or am i a sucker. i kind of already have buyers remorse and wish i i would have spent the extra 200 for the t. i am wanting to set it up for coyote hunting, new hobby, never been, any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

First post by the way, i have been viewing this forum for awhile now. i have had the 15-22 for about a year now and couldnt resist the 15(.223-5.56) no more.

You did OK, assuming it is the old style with chrome lined bbl. and good sights and rail.

Will that work with the "bigass" gas block of the OR model?

Yes, works perfectly on my OR model. Took about two minutes to put on, very easy to do. The gas block doesn't enter into it, the primary arms handguard replaces the stock M&P handguard directly.

Beautiful, thats just what I'm in the market for... I'll look into it!

is there more than one x

i have only seen one type of x which is with chromed barrel and troy quad rail handguard and troy back sight, is there another x that i havent seen? also how do i tell how old the gun is? it is brand new in box never opened, and any other hints of what to look for when buying a new gun

The link I posted indicates that the quad rail is a recent addition. As far as new, a reputable FFL dealer just about guarantees that but it may be new, "old stock". I believe the rail shown is a drop in, rather than a free float. That would be fine with me but you may have wanted a free float. The new "T" model is a definite downgrade from the original but the 'X" appears upgraded in the spec sheet.

There is only 1 x

i guess what im saying is that there is only one kinda of x, previous models that didnt have quadrail wouldnt be considered an x, the link u posted was from 07. so all of the x's are the same, there are two models of the T though, one with troy sights(1900) and one with melonite barrel and magpul sights(1500)

Nope, the link was current and the change is an overlay in red to signal an upgrade. It can be accessed by going to the site, clicking on the X model and then clicking on the spec sheet. It was originally posted in 07 but it is the current specs. It is very possible you may find an in stock version without the new handguard but STILL an X, just an earlier version. You can tell which it is by just looking at it.

it wouldnt be an x it would labeled as something else, when they first came out with the x it had the same hand guard as now

OK, the red overlay in the PDF file indicated to me that it was an upgrade since it clearly says, "new tactical rail drop in handguard" as if it was a later addition. IF you know that not to be the case, fine.

In any event, I think you will find an M&P 15 a very high quality rifle and be happy with it.

I have BATF paperwork stating that it is not a flash suppressor so its perfectly legal. I would not put myself at
risk of getting a 3K rifle confiscated.

Here is the link to the BATF letter stating its legal.

Thanks for your concern!!

I bought an M & P 15FT recently. I'm a Mass resident and my rifle has no suppressor/brake. Can you tell me where in Ma you got your suppressor and who installed it?

Sorry, I assumed you ordered it earlier than that.

Lol!
It came in the mail today... install took about 5 minutes even without a grip tool!
I like it so far, just waiting for a few more things to arrive, and then I'll be able to put it through its paces!
