That's great! 2100 rounds! Glad you like the gun too! I would like to see your round count as it goes up .. Please re post here. Years ago we use to keep a round count for our .22's till 100,000 rounds. I never did wear one out. Never seen a good brand named .22 gun shoot out. They just seemed to get better! I'm still trying to warm up to my M&P22. It's been sitting on the coffee table for just over a month now, yes unfired. I even got it another brick of ammo to help. I did get the urge to take it out last week but couldn't find the time. I'm a die hard 1911 guy and hated Glocks with a passion for years. I'm trying to adjust to the new wave of guns. Thought this M&P 22 would be a good transition gun to start with.Oh ya plus the wife like it. Though it may get her shooting. George

My buddy who went with me had his Berreta .40 and his .357 revolver. He has never owned a .22 before. He shot his box of bullets and was ready to leave, I told him that I still had over 400 bullets left. We shot for a little less than 2hr more. He said he had never had so much fun at the range before. That he usually went and shot his box to keep sharp and leave. I had printed out a bunch of fun targets with billiard balls and some with the red stars like at the arcade and other game targets. We had a blast. Needless to say he is looking for .22 fun gun. This one is top on his list.

Guess I'll have to go down to the range and give mine a try! Ya .22's are fun and cheap to shoot too. That's one of the great things about them. I had a few over the years. I was down to my Beretta mod. 71. it's old but still shoots 100% finley thought it was time for a new .22 so I got the M&P. Just all that plastic and aluminum I'm not use to yet ..I'll warm up to it and get down to the range soon and post how I made out!! Thanks for that great URL for the targets!! Cool!! George

new gun. Actually new to gun ownership. So far, 700 rounds. Its great because it's inexpensive to learn to shoot. I can concentrate on aiming, stance, how to hold the gun, loading, re-loading, safety and every thing without worrying about the price of the rounds.

Ya and just think us older people remember the sale price of CCI mini mags! going back 20 to 25 yeas ago they use to sale for,get this $9.99 a brick! At that time I had a Ruger single six so I never had to by a lot of ammo as I could only unload and load the gun so fast but it sure was fun! with that single six I got darn good at shooting too! Good trigger but Lot's of hammer drop time to hold for. That hammer had a long way to fall! G
Makes perfect sense. I'm not so new to pistol shooting but shoot .22 for the exact same reasons. Enjoy and stay safe.

Well, another range day with the M&P22. Went thru 750 rounds of blue box federal bulk. That puts me at 2850 rds. The first box went great with only 2 failure to eject. The second box was a different story, almost every other rd would not eject, wasn't pushing the slide back strong enough to eject. Had to stop, was trying for a 1000rd day. Is it possible to get a bad batch of ammo. The first box was a box that I had already and the second box was a new purchase. I think I'm gonna try the blazer bulk ammo next. Checked the ejector by putting in a full mag and racking the slide by hand, all came out fine. Any thoughts.
Still love the gun, just a little bump in the road.

I have 2,100 rounds thru it now. The Blazers run through it perfect with no problems but there out of stock around me.
I have been using Federal bulk pack(335) with 15 FTE per box.
Soon as Blazers are back in stock I'm buying a couple boxes !
CCI runs thru it great but it is more expensive .

jsalas, Wow you must be getting to be quite a good shot with your M&P.. I think that's great you sound like you love to shoot! That's all it takes to become a great shot. As far as the ammo goes.. I didn't get into my blue box yet..If you picked up the boxes at the same place the chances are good there from the same batch.. look on the boxes for a batch number, this will tell you I don't think you will get a bad box of ammo from the same batch number.. Now if Box #2 had so many issues it could be your gun was a bit dirty.. Years ago and still today most 22cal shooters would bring a aerosol can of some kind of cleaner lube and at the first sine of issues give it a spray to clean it out some just a little no need to wipe it down.. I also use a brass bore brush and will put that through the bore once then run one or two patches through.. I think the M&P22 would like the spray cleaner lube sprayed back in over the hammer then work the slide a few times.. You don't need much and you don't need to take the gun down for cleaning at the range this all can be done in about 1 min. or so with the gun as is with the slide locked open.. I'm hoping to get down to the range a bit today.. I think the M&P22 has Lot's of hammer drag that may get better as it wears in.But keeping it clean or somewhat clean and lubed should get you through your 1000 + rounds with little effort..I'm going to get through what most say is bad ammo for it. My Remington lightning Bolt.. I have 3 boxes 1500 rounds to go through.. I found some inconsistencies in the power but had no issues with the 250 rounds I put through and they seemed to be right on target no fliers after the first two Mags of me getting use to the gun a bit. I clean the gun well after each trip to the range. But that's just me. Habit I guess.. Enjoy your love for shooting and be safe! George

evnash, Ya know what you mean! Years ago I lived with the national Forest back in the woods of northern New Hampshire behind my house I use to shoot everyday! I was lucky to have a Ruger single six at the time.. That slowed me down with ammo but I sure learned about pressing the trigger.. Was nice not to worry like I do now if I'll have a spot to shoot at the range.. Your a lucky guy! George

I use Remington Rem oil it has Teflon in it it's in a full size aerosol spray can.. Mine has a yellow cap on it and the green and yellow can.. I go it in WalMart! I don't remember the price but it's cheap for what you get! Ya I remember them days I was always smarter the mom and dad till I was at least 26 LOL!! But then I came around and knew how truly smart they were.. Your a lucky man to have your son come around some never wise up at all!! Be safe! George

I've recently gotten back into rimfire shooting with my new M&P22. I haven't shot my Ruger 10/22 in years, but I tricked that out and am enjoying that again, too. I still have like 4 bricks of Thunderbolt. I know it sucks, but I'm gonna start shooting that just to ge rid of it. Wit the price of ammo being what it is, my centirefires are gonna get lots of time off. I'm even considering getting a 9MM M&P, just to have the M&P22 as a trainer. Normally, i hate striker fired plastic, but I might be able to justify it as a companion to the .22.

Jesse, I had someone down the range with a Smith & Wesson 9 shot I think .22 revolver it was in stainless steal! Nice shooter too! Also if he's looking for a old west single action I had a Ruger single six, single action .22 it came with a magnum .22 cylinder too.. This gun is slow,one will really learn to shoot with it because of the long hammer drop time it has..Classic look too. Wish I still had mine. Really great gun.. George
I too used to dislike plastic striker fired guns. Had no use for them. As a long time 1911 fanatic, it was a difficult jump to make but that is history and I'm not looking back.
My first non-revolver M&P was a very early .40 compact that had a huge problem with the mag dropping on every shot, but there was something that I liked about the gun. I bought it as a CCW, thinking that my expensive 1911s are too nice for the bad weather I get for half the year. Plastic cannot rust, right?
Fast forward to today, and all but one of my beloved 1911s have been sold. I've learned to love the long trigger pull and think of it as being like a double action revolver. My 1911's trigger now scares me. I now think to myself "I used to carry that?"

M&P Freak, Ya I remember way back to when we moved to a state where you can open carry a hand gun or go down to you local PD and get a CC permit in just a few days. Still no training or coarse to take to this day. Any way my dad showed me what he took back with him from WWII it was a old Beretta mod.1935 .32 auto.. we shot it and I was hooked. I went to the local general store that also sold guns and got a almost new Mod. 19 Smith & Wesson 357 in 1978 loved that gun but for some reason I was drawn to a bottom feeder. Had my share of cheap Jennings, Raven pocket autos.. never had a issue with them other then well they were cheap.. In 1994 i got a used but really nice Colt Officers mod. Mark IV ser.80 in SS .45.. Paid top dollar for that gun back then too.. $475 for a used gun. This is my CC go to gun.. I found a gen 3 6906 9mm in SS that I love too got it last year used.. also have a S&W 4566 and the wife ordered a M&P .45 still not here, order was placed last year.. Both S&W autos are N.H. State Police commemorative guns the 4466 is for the 50th NHSP year in service and the M&P is for the 75th year in service .. Unfortunately the wife has the laser engraved gun as safe queens unfired as will be the M&P .45 if it ever get done ... I better stop now.. Toying with the idea of a M&P 9mm or .45. I think I may want the compact but that won't go with the M&P22 to well.. Oh we can dream.. George

22's are all naturally dirty. I use to get that same problem. Clean the barrel with some hoppes and a bore brush when you are shooting that many rounds will/should help solve the problem.
It's more than likely that "snotty" lube on the brass is building up in the chamber and causing the problem.

That's ok, Just shoot when you can or feel like it. Main thing is to have fun and gain experience and sometimes the best way to do that for sum is slowly. Do you give it a good cleaning after your outing? I do. I figure the cleaner it is then smoother it will break in.. Just my way of thinking plus I like to clean the gun it's all part of shooting I enjoy it.. I only have 550 through mine so far and it's doing well.. Only had two issues one failure to fire a round.. This was a cci mini mag round and the other issue was low powered load had just enough power to eject the spent case and cock the hammer but did not bring the slide rearward enough to pickup a fresh round and feed it into the chamber , and this was a Remington lighting bolt round.. I feel both issues I had were ammo issues not gun issues.. So far I'm really happy with my M&P 22 but still getting use to the hole polymer frame thing.. My other bulk ammo is Federal blue box 525 rounds 36gr hp and i have a bulk box of Winchester white box 555 rounds 36gr hp " it does not say wildcats on the box" anyone have a preference what I shoot next?
The CCI mini mags did shoot with a more consistent power lever with a lot less smoke..
Remington Lighting bolts were very inconsistent in hhere report and felt power lever and smoke was heavy after the first 150 rounds or so by 300 rounds smoke was ridiculous IMO.. But they all seemed to print well on target if i do did my part.
I feel I keep my gun really clean and for range use I would still shoot them a as long as I was not shooting a high round count or was willing to clean the gun when issues start, I am.. I hope the federal or Winchester will shoot a bit more consistent and with a little less smoke.. I feel the smoke has a lot to do with the snot ot lube they use on some of the bulk ammo after a 150 or more round count the smoke gets heaver as it has to burn off the gun more..Sorry for the long post again but to me it's all part of the hobby shooting and it's all fun.. I like to get help when I need it, and give help when I can it's all shooting to me.. Have gun and be safe! George

Ok back from the range put 250 rounds of Winchester white box 555 36gr HP through it.. Total of 800 rounds.. No malfunctions of any kind with this Winchester ammo. But it shot at about 11:00 and high about 2" moved from 75feet to 30 feet and target looked the same except that the groups were very tight some less then 1" with 5&6 rounds overlapping eachother consistently but again high and to the right of center.. Checked my sights and they were fine didn't move.. I also found that the Winchester burned a bit cleaner too.. recoil was strong and consistent as was the report IMO a bit hotter then cci mini mags I shot.. Maybe that's why they were shooting high.. But would one brand shoot consistently to the right of another brand of ammo? I can see it shooting high but would think it should still be centered.. So far I found Remington 40gr SP to be POA and cci mini mags both 36gr HP and 40gr SP to shoot to POA.. Strange.. Going to take the gun down with the Winchesters again another day.. I know it shooting high but wonder if it's shooting to the right because of my ability or lack of today? But that's unlike me. I didn't have any other brand of ammo with me today.. Gun seems to be working in really nice.. Smooth slide operation and trigger is much more crisp too.. I don't think there is much over 3lbs on the trigger on this m&P22 I like it. Any suggestions? Well practice, control, improving skill, learning proper gun hold and instinctive muscle control, all that you can do improve your shooting skills. But I think in this post we are just talking about basic gun breaking in how the gun's liking some cheap ammo and having fun.. For me I try for tighter small groups in the 9&10 ring.. I look for consistency from day to day with improvement. Plinking at steal cans is fun because you try to keep them moving or in the air at times. Can't do that at my range though.. Paper only.. Some steal too.. Keeps cost down on .45's too! But yes making holes in paper as close to or overlapping eachother with a small a group as posable at POA at a plausible fighting distance.. And ya FUN!! Just good old clean fun!! George
