I took my new M&P22 to the range today and I am so happy with this purchase. Fired about 50 rounds of each of the following:

Winchester 36 grain hollow point 333 Pack from Walmart-Zero Malfunctions

Remington 550 Golden Bullet Hollow points-No malfunctions

Federal 550 round value pack- No malfunctions

Remington Thunderbolt (yikes!)- NO malfunctions

Winchester Super X-No Malfunctions

Winchester XpertHV- FIVE malfunctions (1 fail to fire but then fired when round reloaded, 4 fail to eject)

I was hitting a 16 ounce soda bottle at 25 yards shot after shot. Literally made it dance off the range. Rest of the shots were on a 12 inch Shoot N See target at 25 yards. I'm sure a Ruger or a Browning are more accurate, but this gun is more than accurate enough for me!

I had to leave the range early, though. Two idiots show up and take the point next to me. One of them is "teaching" his friend how to "safely" handle a gun. He loads the Glock, turns it to the side to show his friend how the trigger is now forward, and the freaking barrel is pointing RIGHT AT ME!. I just left. No sense trying to correct people these days. Someone that dumb with a loaded gun in his hand is not someone I want to have a conversation with.

Smart move to just leave. Some people...

Congrats on the M&P22. Sounds like fun, I gotta get me one of those!

Question.

How does the M&P 22 trigger compare to the Shield?

Russ

There is just no cure for stupid, I see it on a public range from time-to-time.

As to the M&P .22, mine is great and shoots anything I put in it. One caution, don't waste money on the Remington bulk pack. I've experienced nothing but trouble (fail to fire mostly) from this brand and my gunsmith warned me away from them as well.

I should have known they were gonna be morons. They were to my left, but when they went downbrage, they put their targets to my right, so they were shooting at an angle. Then one of them stepped in front of the bench to shoot, rather than stay behind it.

I shoot Remington Bulk through mine all the time. I've only had trouble with Winchester bulk so far.

M&P 22 pistol is in a class by itself. The only other pistol that looks worth buying is the Ruger SR22.

I have had my M&P 22 about a month now. Love it. Would like for the trigger pull to fit in with my Models 41 and 2206. Put close to 500 rounds thru it and only ammo problems was with a box of Remington Thunderbolts the wouldn't fire. Even had FTF with them in my Model 617. Looking for a green glow front sight. Any suggestions?

I remember way back when they (Thunderbolts), weren't too bad. I don't know what Remington did, but NONE of my 22's like them. Misfires and stovepipes is about all they're good for. About all they have been good for is training my friends grandson about hangfires & misfires and what to do when that happen in his bolt action single shot.

They aren't similiar at all. The shield has a stiffer trigger with a crisp reset. The M&P22 is much softer and the reset is really vague.

I actually just got home from shooting both. :D

Thank you.

I was hoping the M&P 22 would hone my Shield skills for less ammo money.

This is my first .22 pistol, and I was prepared for it being boring shooting only a .22. Not at all. Lots of fun, just as much as a larger centerfire gun. The .22 will be my main range gun from now on. Shoot the others just enough stay current with them, that's all.

Ive had that happen at the range a couple of times....i give them my pissed of look and ask him or them what the hell they are doing, But then i feel bad as they might not have had a father to show them proper manners when firearms are near or in your possesion. I din't have a father growing up since i was 3 but still i have common sense. Seems like the new generation of people are lacking common sense, im not saying stupid because i know alot of people smarter then my self but lacking something that i belive is a must.

These two didn't look like the type to take criticism. When they went up to staple their target, the were about to staple theirs right over mine! Remember they crossed into my zone to hang their targets. I called down to tem "Whoa! That's my target you're covering" And the "teacher" looked annoyed. Barely uttered a word of apology.

They feel totally different in the hand and also shoot at a different POI so I don't think it'd be effective for that purpose. I mean, shooting a lot in general is going to help overall and .22 is cheap.

I say do it anyways. :D

Then you are right, they are not worth your time. I would have too left for the day. People like that will eventually shoot themselfs or worse someone else.

My only complaint about my MP22 is that the magazines are hard to find and expensive =(

yeah, but at 34$ a mag, thats kinda obscene, I can get 2 15-22 mags for that price.

I'm actually real happy about this thread and to read so much positive news in regards to the m&p 22, I'm purchasing one new tomorrow from my LGS. Does $375.00 sound right? I'm hoping to improve my mechanics and sharpen my skills as I plan on shooting my 40pro in IDPA.

S&W M&P40, M&P40 PRO, M&P 40C

I think S&W had them for $32 but they were on backorder. I was willing to pay the extra $2 per magazine so that I could get them right away instead of waiting a few months for them.

I paid $369. So that sounds about right.

The mags are made by Walther .. German imported which is why they are pricey.

Note real happy with the mags. They can be a little "sloppy" when loading an empty mag. If you aren't watching what your doing, some rounds will "stand-up" in the mag if you take the spring all the way to the bottom while loading. Not like my HS and they all stack neatly (for a lack of a better word). As for feeding and shooting,no problems.

Still breaking mine in and it eats about everything I've feed it. Seems to like the Federal the best,Remington held their own. Even ate REALLY old lead Wildcats I found in with some old ammo. The more I shoot it,the better it gets. Still getting use to the back sights, but shot a nickel size group at about 8 yards on my last mag (with the Federal ammo).

I did have a few of the cheap-o rounds that ejected but didn't have enough "poop" to push the slide back far enough to grab the next bullet out of the mag.

It's going to be a great plinker. Shoots way better than what I thought it would from what some people had been saying about it.

Shark, You got a good price on your MP22 from the prices I've seen on the internet. I paid $389. plus tax for mine. I ordered 3 mags from .44mag.com and paid $34.95 each for them. Got them in three days w/o paying expedited shipping. Good folks to deal with. I have 2 on BO from S&W for same price. The S&W CS rep told me they were in stock, charged my credit card, and about a week later I got a BO notice saying they would be shipped in 3-4 weeks. I will take them but that is really poor customer service on S&W's part.
On the positive side, I am expecting my M&P9 from my LGS on Tuesday of next week. Last Monday when I ordered mine, he had 11 M&P's in various calibers, etc. but did have the one I wanted (with the ambi safety like my MP22). I stopped by yesterday to check on my order status and he was down to 1 in .357. For a small town, that's a lot of sales for one make and model.

You know I found the M&P 22lr 10 & 12 round mags at midway, it says expected in stock date of 6-1-12.. They have them listed for $26.95 I ordered four, hopefully will be in as expected. Using the one mag that came with the gun is ridiculous.

I also order myself a s&w drop in .357 barrel for my fs 40 and the midway competition range bag that is on sale finally.

Gun sales are just crazy right now. New guns are on back order and used guns are flying out of the LGS and pawn shops in the Tampa Bay area. The request for ccw permits here in Florida are at an all time high.

S&W M&P40, M&P40 PRO, M&P 40C, M&P 22

WA CPL applications are up 30% from last year, which had a double digit increase from the year prior..

Every time I am in my LGS there is someone filling out paperwork on a new purchase, often numerous people..

Anyone know a good place to find the M&P22 for a good price? Local stores want almost m&p9/40fs price for it now, $450+
