I have been debating on my next purchase for a little while now so I thought I would see everyone's opinions. The mp9c would be $400 with night sights and the glock would be $420. Both will be purchased new. Which would you buy and why? Thank!

Love my M&P9C

well, I have never handled a Glock 19, but I have had my M&P9C for a couple of years. I've put a little more than 1500 flawlessly functioning rounds through it. From 115 grain aluminum case Blazer to 147 grain Federal HP's. It has fed all of them and is very pleasant to shoot. I currently carry the Federal 147's in it. I love it!

Cheers,

Rick

I've had a G19 since back in 1990 and I've tried the M&P9c a few times.
While the 9c feels nicer to hold, I feel my old G19 feels better to shoot, with a better Factory trigger.

I recommend you find someone locally that has either the G19, or 9c to try (range rental, people at the range that will let you try theirs, etc) before buying and see which one YOU think feels better to shoot.

Of course... Apex trigger kits will make the 9C's trigger better, but that will run you an extra $60-$100+, depending on which kit you buy... But I prefer buying a pistol I don't HAVE to upgrade as soon as I buy it.
Just my opinion.
TRY before you Buy.

Though I'm a M&P fan boy, if I had to choose between those two I'd go with the Glock given their size similarity and the fact that the 19 holds 15+1 and the 9c 10+1.

However, I had a G22 for years and found it difficult and uncomfortable to carry concealed. I got rid of it after I got my Shield which is (in my humble opinion) much easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. So, if you are looking for a carry gun I'd recommend the Shield. If you are looking for a house gun I'd recommend a full size M&P. (I loved my Shield so much I traded off the G22 I was never going to carry again along with my G21 and its 2x4 grip for my 5" Pro.)

But if you're just wanting a new gun both are great guns, go for it!

The Glock is what I would and did choose. It's the original, the M&P is the copy. I really dislike the segmented trigger on M&P. There are a lot more trigger set-up options with the Glock and it is the more proven design being used by military and police around the world and the majority of Police here in U.S. It's extremely hard to get a Glock to rust, but I still see issues with M&P's although not nearly as bad as when they first came out. 33 round magazine option for the Glock. You might consider the Glock 26 as well.

I prefer the G19 as it has a a grip that allows a full purchase with all fingers, and a higher magazine capacity. Note that the full size M&P is, for all intents and purposes, the same length and thickness as a G19, but it is a little taller, owing to its 17 round mag, as opposed to the 15 round mag of the G19.

I have both. The 9c is new, but I carried the G19 daily for 3 years until I bought my Shield, and now the 9c. The G19 is a good gun, but I prefer the ergonomics of the Smith. Time will tell if the G19 stays in the safe, on the hip, or gets sent down the road.

I have owned and carried both. I stuck with the 19. Gen 4 specifically. I like the backstraps and more so the beaver tail.

It's personal preference really. The 19 is slightly larger but not by much. Greater capacity and better out of the box trigger usually. And it's seems as though every store has a better selection of parts and accessories for Glock.

Nothing against the 9c, mine ran like a sewing machine. I just like the 19 better.

I wanted a G19 gen 4 for a long time. I have very small hands for my size and found it was a great fit, until I discovered the Shield lol. Nothing feels better to me than my shield. If I could afford one is still buy a G19 but the shields price was attractive and the ergonomics were great. Like someone above mentioned, find someone who has them both or do a range rental and try both out. Everyone will have a different opinion on the subject but only you can tell which is better for yourself. Good luck!

I've never handled a S&W M&P but I have a Gen 2 G19 that I bought
new. I think the 19 is Glock's best model. It seems to be just right
and it seems that most owners love theirs. I also have a Gen 3 mod 26
that is easier to conceal but doesn't fit my hand as well. I suggest you
grab the G19 for $420.

I have a 9c and actually shot a G19 last week. It was the first glock I've handled. They are almost the same size guns. I thought the 9c had the better trigger and did not like the grip angle on the G19. That said, I did shoot the glock very well.
You need to shoot them both before deciding which one you want.

I feel like the new factory trigger on M&P really makes the race pretty close. I prefer the ergonomics of the M&P and factory sights. However, I did change mine out to night sights. Both really good prices though, must be LEO?

I had a Glock 23 but gave it to my son before we had a concealed carry law & after I retired from armed security. Now I have an M&P40C as well as a full size M&P40. The grip is better on the M&P with a pinky extension & feels great with a full size 15 round with an X-Grip inserted.

I'd have to give the edge to the M&P but I feel you can't go wrong with either. I shoot equally as well with either & both are very reliable after many rounds through them. Never had an FTF or FTE with any ammo I've put through them.

At that price I doubt it is a Gen 4....probably a gen3. I believe there is a min for a new gen4 that Glock demands selling for and I believe it is $529. There are a lot of Glock people that do not like the Gen 4 because of the dual recoil spring assembly Glock went to. The feel is different on the grip, and that is a vastly different feel for it in my opinion. There are more accessories for the gen3 due to the obvious length of time the gen 3 has been around.

Looking to do the same here except I'm looking at the FS M&P. The LGS/range has both of these for rent and I have rented the FS M&P9 and both the Gen3&4 G19's. Loaded all the mags and ran all 3 guns back to back and couldn't feel enough difference in the recoil, triggers and operation of the guns to make a decision. I ran appox. 100 rounds total through the three. The only real difference I felt was in the grips between the M&P and the 19's. I will add that the shop did tell me the M&P trigger had been swapped out for an Apex
The price difference here is such that I could get the Smith and have them install an Apex trigger and still come in slightly under the Glock, price wise and since I already have a Shield 9, I'm leaning towards the M&P. Which ever one I pick will be used as a ccw during the colder months and as a primary range gun.

My 9C has 12+1 mags, and with an X-Tac (I think?) slide on piece you can shoot full sized M&P mags. I carry the 12+1 in the gun, full size mag for reload.

Both are good guns. After shooting a Gen 4 Glock, I might lean towards the Glock. The 9C seems to be very 'thick' for no apparent reason.

Really depends on what you are looking for. A Shield might be a better carry gun, but is a compact single stack gun. Heck, if you have the $ and can't find anyone that will let you shoot them, buy them both, and sell the one you like the least. I would think you would get decent resell on either with low round count.

Very good prices there, 9C with NS is typically $450 even at LE/MIL/1R pricing. Glock pricing I don't keep up with but low $400's is always good for a Glock, even a Gen3.

As already mentioned, you aren't really looking a comparable models. The G19 and M&P 9 (Full Size, 4.25" barrel) are compatible sizes - the G26 would be the comparible model to the 9C.

There's nothing wrong with a Glock. They've sold kazillions of them, have kazillions in service with all sorts of agencies, and are easily the most popular "tupperware" pistol. That being said, I choose the M&P, mainly because to me it is a much more comfortable pistol to shoot, especially in 40/45/357 calibers. I have both the FS and Compact models, and my buddy has about 8 Glocks as well. He likes his, and I like mine :). I shoot his every once in awhile, and he shoots mine, but we always come back to what we like. Full disclosure, I have Apex triggers in my M&P's, the FSS in the FS and the DCAEK in 9c, which is my EDC now, replacing a Shield.

Shorter version, go shoot both, pick the one that fits you the best. With the M&P you will likely want to upgrade the trigger, or dry fire it about 500 times to smooth out the striker. With the Glock, it has a serviceable trigger right out of the box, but you'll likely want to replace the sights pretty quick out of the box, so it's really a wash there.

I'd take them both out and shoot em. The one I felt better with would be the one I'd buy.

Having said that, I have Glock 23's with 9mm barrels that are threaded for use with a suppressor. They were the easiest to get threaded barrels for.

I got rid of it after I got my Shield which is (in my humble opinion) much easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. So, if you are looking for a carry gun I'd recommend the Shield. If you are looking for a house gun I'd recommend a full size M&P.

I whole heartily agree. My Shield is my favorite carry gun, it is so easy to conceal and I LOVE my full size M&P

I also like the feel of the M&P over Glock

I'm a little odd but I chose a SD9VE over the Glock 19. It was $200 cheaper ($289.99) and holds one more round. I compared it side by side with my son-in-law's Glock 19 and they are so similar inside and out, it is spooky. It has been totally reliable and I have not found the need to upgrade the trigger as many do. I think having a DA revolver helped me adjust to the trigger. I would buy it again.

The 9C needs the extended mag to have a full 3-finger grip. That's a big deal to me. OTOH, I like a manual thumb safety, which is available on the M&P for only about $20 more. On the Glock, you'd have to get the Cominolli safety and a gunsmith to install it. That's $95 plus installation. If you don't want a thumb safety, then I think the G19 Gen 3 is the best all-purpose handgun there is. A compact with the weight of some subcompacts; full 3 finger grip; 4" barrel; 15 round mag. The G19 is the number one choice in a concealed handgun among firearms industry professionals (according to a non-scientific poll done by a local podcaster at the last NRA convention).

I don't care for the cheesy backstraps or the recoil spring on the Gen 4, though, so I'd look for a Gen 3, as I think both are still manufactured. And on both, the plastic sights are a disposable item. As to the thumb safety, there is a reason a particular kind of ND injury is called "Glock leg". Things happen. My wife first insisted on a manual safety, and now she has me convinced too. U.S. military has insisted on one for over a hundred years. It's all about things beyond your control. I'm shopping for a new 9mm Shield right now, and it looks like I'll have to special order to get the safety. That's OK with me.

To the OP. Where are you getting those excellent prices? 9C for $400 with night sights?

Not relevant, but I think the M&P is a better looking gun than the Glock...and that's any M&P compared to any Glock. I also like the standard M&P trigger better than Glock.

I tried both out and I ended up with a Glock 17 Gen 3 the 19 I tried out was a Gen 3 they don't sell the Gen 4 where I live. One month later I bought a S&W shield in 9mm there both good shooters the best of both worlds.

have both

I have both firearms you are looking at. The S&W is the compact version of what I carry at work so for me it was a no brainer. It's a matter of personal preference and I doubt one is much better than the other. Both of my MP's have had several rounds thru them without one misstep. When my dept. shoots qualifications there have only been two malfunctions with a dept. of 212 officers over the last several years. Both malfunctions were attributed to magazines. Anyone that tells you either one is junk should be discounted as they probably are arm chair shooters that never fired either.

If you can concealed carry a full size handgun, you have many choices. Many people cannot. I've carried full size handguns concealed for a long time. Right now, I carry a Sig P227. I have carried a 5" 1911 and a Springfield Armory XDM-45 4.5" with 13+1 rounds of .45ACP (with a 45, the weight of the ammo is noticeable. 3/4 oz per round for 230gr!)
