What are M&P 547s 9MM going for these days? About 98% with papers and no box. I was at a gunshow today and a guy had one for $750, but said "make me an offer" and I was dunbfounded on what to offer as I am not too up on this gun.

"What are they going for" is between a seller and buyer. Economics - you will pay what you are willing to pay to get what you want. A seller will sell when he believes the offer is all he can get. The economy is down, end of the month, and he may need to make a house payment... I would have started around $375 - because that is what I paid for the last one I bought.

The seller wasn't too far off. A 4" LNIB (rarer than the 3") sold on GB for over $1000 recently and the low end there seems to be around $600. Offer $550 (it worked for me)! ;)

they are going for $700 to over $1,000 on GB id give him $650 for it at the price ur geting a pretty good deal the $750 is not bad on it

Jump at it...The appeciation is even going up by the month...The problem lies with what to do with it? Keep it for an ever-increasing investment: hence no firing...Or, shoot & enjoy it...I chose the former...

I bought one NIB in 92, a 3 inch. Paid $300, it was a toss up between that one and a LNIB 5946 with 3 mags. After the ban I felt I'd gyped myself, so I sold it, thought I was something else for getting $350 for it. Another mistake in a long line of gun mistakes. LOL

I would have tried to score it below $700 but as the others have said I've seen prices go much higher on GB..
I have a 4" M547 & I've never been disapointed in it as a shooter, I can do anything a 4" K frame 357/38 can do & it's ammo is cheaper to aquire..
I'm always looking for a "Decent" Priced 3" M547 to join the small heard of 9mm S&W revolvers I have..
Let us know how it turns out..

Dick , keep my # on your speed dial ,and when you come upon such deals ,call me.

$600. to $700. for any high condition 547 is a decent deal.
I have speed loaders to go with it if you make the deal. Let me know.

Regards , Allen

Ditto!!
Also I have at least a dozen speedloaders for the 547 mostly HKS but three are Safarilands..
There cool to have when you at the range with the 547..
If the 547 was that mint I wouldn't worry but if looking at an older/used one make sure the cylinders bores are smoth by looking with a magnifying glass or eye loupe also make sure all six extractor segments are intact.. These are currently available from Numrich for about $12ea..
Note the two fireing pins & that they look good & the hammer as well as these parts aren't available..
Alot of parts for the 547 are typical K Frame such as the trigger, rebound slide, hand, ejector rod but alot are special to that revolver only..
The speed loaders are out there even after 25 years I come across them.. I was lucky & had a member here offer to trade me some he could sell at the gunshows so I packed up several M10 & M586 speedloaders & the trade was on..
They were all as new in the package..
Also note that yesterday while at the Indy 1500 gunshow I scored an Alessi Bodygaurd shoulder holster for a 4" K Frame for "Three Dollars".. The 4" M547 might even see some carry this winter.. But a J Frame rules for that..
Good Luck on the 547 diamondback68 !!

It's worth what somebody is willing to pay...

I got mine for $900 from GB. Some deep gouges on the top strap and right side of frame but IT SHOOTS NIIIIICE! :)

I just got it this Saturday and I put 200 rounds through it over the weekend: 100 of Remington UMC (chrono'd to be about 1100 fps) and 100 of my handloads (124 gr JHP over 4.9 gr of Unique chrono'd to be doing about 1090 fps).

I had a hell of a bad flinch which were throwing my rounds low left but I settled down after about 140 rounds :( My handloads were producing snake eyes at 15y when I did my part - though about 3" low. I will be trying to go with heavier bullets doing the same speed to throw muzzle uphigher...

I've got tracks on the two versions of the 547s. They're out of date but you can see the trend pretty clearly in this chart:

Here are the tracks:

Smith & Wesson 547 3" RB Revolver in 9 mm. Bluebook of Gun Values (30th Edition) indicates between $675 in 98% condition and $775 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 41 recorded prices for this model gun from $500 to $999 over a period of 6 Yrs 0 Mos ending May 7, 2008. The average price as of that date was $749. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights, all represented as 95% or better, no distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $317.

Smith & Wesson 547 4" SB Revolver in 9 mm. Bluebook of Gun Values (30th Edition) indicates between $675 in 98% condition and $775 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 34 recorded prices for this model gun from $450 to $995 over a period of 6 Yrs 1 Mos ending November 10, 2008. The average price as of that date was $620. all represented as 95% or better, no distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $317.

Timely Thread

I just picked up my 3 inch 547 today. I'm bad at estimating percentages but the only thing wrong with the blue is the turn ring. The photos don't really give it justice. I paid $695.

P.S. Were these regulated for the 124 grain bullets? I usually shoot 115 gr rounds in my semi-autos.

Thanks one and all and what a great chart 5wire.
Unfortunately because of my health I wasn't able to get back to the show on Sunday, but I know the seller pretty well and if it didn't sell I am sure I will see him at the next show. Thanks again.

Did you find the trigger pull to be "herculean"? If any revolver deserves a trigger-job: this is it.....Otherwise, balance, grip, sights: no problem..

not really

The trigger pull on mine is amazing for some reason. The timing seems like it is better than perfect and the DA and SA pulls are as smooth as a safe rolling on greased ball bearings... secure and firm. I haven't measured the pull weight but I can pull on it without haveing to choke up on the grip, using my fingertip.

Oh yeah, I put vintage repro HE grips on mine :) I plan on loading up some 148 gr full wadcutters sized to .356 that I found from beartoothbullets.com. I've been reading that the 547's are very accurate with the heavy Gold Dots.

Ky Jim,
Nice find! It is a handome revolver. Enjoy it.

I think that S&W put a heavier than standard 38/357 hammer spring in the 547s due to the hard primers used in alot of military 9mm ammo, Isreali Sub-Gun ammo comes to mind..
The folks that say there's is smooth & slick have had work done to them as every 547 I ever saw has had a heavier trigger pull than say a M19 etc..
You have to also figure that there's two firing pins for the hammer to strike & this may also account for the increased hammer spring tention, alot of 22 rimfire revolvers also have a stronger mainspring than a centerfire revolver..
I have a line on a 3" M547 that I may be able to aquire but the finacial advisers aren't gonna allow it for a while.
I've already picked up a set of Uncle Mikes Round Butt Combat grips for it..

Picked up this mint 547 some years back for $250. Lettered as one out of the pilot run of test revolvers in 1980.
