I have run into a M60 38 special with adjustable sights and 3" barrel with full lug. It does not have the lock. Is this an unusual model or just new to me? It looks rather appealing..... Any information would be appreciated. serial number BFV 33--.

Thanks

They were the pre runner to the current m-60's in .357.;)

They were produced between 1990, and 1995. They became a standard catalog item in 1992.:)

I have a 60-15 which is the same thing in .357 but with the hillary hole. It is a fun little gun to shoot, especially with .38's, and quite accuarte!

60-4 I recall

this is mine, like a mini 686

REAL NICE GUYS, are you shooting anything special for ammo in these guns? This is really my idea of a perfect gun to carry on country hikes, bicycle rides and such here in minnysoda. Mostly it will be for some fun shooting on such outings as it will be light to carry and still accurate to shoot!

LMAO hillary hole, I am definatly stealing that

Crazy K38-

I'd like to take credit for it, but it's not mine. Been reading it ever since I started reading gun forums.;)

This line from your signature, however, is great!

If Bill Clinton didn't want it, why would S&W think I want the hillary hole on my gun?:D:D:eek::D:D

And it's brother, the 36-6. They are near perfect weight and size for fun shooting guns. Very accurate.

Nice score Who Cares!!! H Richard , I have your 36. Hold onto it! Here are my two. A 36-6 and a 60-10 that was Magnaported before leaving the factory. Does help on muzzle rise and yes I've shot it at night. No difference than my other snubs as far as muzzle flash IMO. Love em both but definately like shooting regular ol .38's through each. Don't know the exact count but do believe there were less than 650 36-6's produced. The 60 will whap you HARD with 158 gr. Speer Gold Dot .357's, even with the rubbers!

Nice snubs men!!

60-10 with it's dress up grips. Drew blood with 5 shots af .357's. Now wears Uncle Mikes like the 36-6

As stated earlier, the model 60 with 3" barrel and adjustable sights was a production gun. I bought mine new in the mid-90's I believe and it came with the hogue/smith rubber combat grips. As rubber goes, they are the best fitting grips I have handled, and are the same ones that came on my model 63. Mine is a 60-4. Great gun, great shooter, handles well. It is a 38 not the later 357. With 125 grain Federal personal defense rounds, it is controllable but gets your attention. IMO the gun is too small and light to use with 357 rounds. The ultimate 'kit' gun. Arguably so.

yeah I kinda got into trouble for that because I made that one up while sleep deprived and for some reason thought it would be ok and Lee was nice enough to make me realize I don't need to change things in that state of mind

Here's my 60-4 with the factory round to square grips. Great shooter, I did open up the rear blade a few thousands to let some light in around the front blade.

Bronco 45-

I love those things. Best small revolver ever made, I suspect. Great little defense and small game/snake guns.

And the M-60-4 is factory Rated for Plus P ammo.

I am also a big fan of this configuration. I have a model 60-10, which as stated earlier is the 357 model. I would not mind at all if it were the 38 Special only model, since that is what I shoot exclusively in it. It is a great size and weight, and handles very well. This is, in fact, my 3rd one, I having traded and sold off the first 2. I keep coming back to it, and intend to keep this one. As soon as I sold the other 2, I started looking for another. You know how that goes. A great kit gun, as someone said. In an earlier magazine article, one of the writers called it his "Trail Masterpiece." I agree. wyatte

I believe the number of 36-6's made was 615. For some reason the prices (when you see one for sale) don't seem to reflect this scarcity. I think they are real sleepers as collectors, and don't shoot mine much any more due to that.

Now that is a beautiful thing!

I would prefer thred ramp front sight, as I can pick it up easier in a self defense situation. I've thought about having my 60-15 blued. It would still be rust resistant for CCW, but not as readily noticed as stainless is. I just plain prefer the looks of blued steel too.

I have the website of a place that does remarkable bluing to stainless. His work is great!

I just sent my 65-5 in to be CeraKoted in Titanium Blue, I'll post a pic when it returns in 3-4 weeks.

The stainless was pretty well beat up and I don't like "nickel" appearing guns. Time will tell, either a shrewd move or a colossial screw up.

This one is a 60-4, comes with standard black syn. grips and now lives at my house! I got a chance to shoot it a few times on Sunday and I think it is going to be a favorite.

One thing I'm noticing is that all of those pictured in this thread have non stainless case colored target triggers. This guy has a stainless wider than normal trigger and it is more curved than standard. Net effect.... the extra curvature pinches my finger during shooting. This was getting old after only a few cylinder fulls. Does anyone know - does Smith still sell the regular case colored target triggers?

I guess I'll have to start looking for some classier grips too - synthetic is comfortable but UGLY! Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help in deciding to buy this classy little Smith - it's neat.

I sure like the S&W combat grips I put on mine, kinda finishes off the correct look as well
