In 1966 when I graduated from the NYPD Police Academy on E20th St I purchased a 2" Model 36 at the 400 Broome St NYPD Equipment Bureau and was gifted a 2" Colt DS by my family.I carried the DS off duty for 20 years while the M36 lived in the safe. Both were sold in 1994 when I moved overseas for 20 years.
Yesterday I picked up at my FFL a 3" Model 60-4 puchased here from a member. The revolver is in excellent LNIB condition and came with both the original Uncle Mike's grips and a very nice set of magnas. Both are too small for my hand but a longer pair of checkered bananas are much better to my liking. The RB factory combats are also a better fit.
Next week I hope to get it to the range.
I hope you enjoy the photos!

Congrats on that acquisition.

I like 'em so much I have a backup (one in the box, one not). Both of mine, and most I've seen, came with Uncle Mike's combat grips (not the UM's boots).

I like your choice of the S&W combats. My carbon steel cousin of the 60-4 (Model 36-6) sometimes wears the combats.

To me the best thing about the 60-4 over any other Chiefs Special after 1984 is the serrated target trigger.

Enjoy, and please do let us have a range report.

I used to own a 3" model 60 and it was the best woods gun I ever carried. Then I traded it for a nickel model 19-3. Figured I was coming out money ahead but, the m19 has always been a safe queen whereas the m60 was an almost constant shooter.

I've owned an awful lot of different guns during the past 60 years and the 6 shot 2 1/2" 686-4 is my favorite.

There’s nothing to dislike about the 60-4.

I just remembered I had this Lady Smith carry bag with nothing to go in it or use for it.

I think the 60-4 will fit nicely and be protected well in it or should I use some other case?

I'll bet Bob Allen would be proud to see you carry that 60-4 in his Lady Smith case.

I think it's a brilliant solution.

I have had a 60-4 since they first hit the market. From the first time I took it to the range, it has been a constant pleasure to own and shoot. I have carried it in the field on numerous occasions, with great pleasure. I have taken a couple of bushel baskets of edible small game with this wonderful little piece!

It made a perfect side gun to my over/under Beretta bird gun. I carried it cross draw, while hunting quail, grouse, and etc. It was ready at hand for sitting cottontails and snowshoe rabbits.

What is most surprising is how well it holds and shoots at 25 yards. This will be the last hand gun I hold before they plant me!

My 60-4 is one of my most used and useful sidearms. I really can't imagine a better woods-walking gun - big enough. But still small enough. Unobtrusive but easy to shoot well. Enough power for the vast majority of things you might need a sidearm for. Mine wears presentation square targets. Bananas feel good but I could never get used to the look of them.

The 3" 60-4 is still on my grail list. I have a 3" 60-15 Pro Series (with the two-piece barrel and the lock hole, plugged), and it is a great shooter. But I'd gladly trade up for a 60-4, without a regret, and pay extra for the exchange.
