I was in the local Bass Pro shop today, and wandered into the gun location. They were selling a new M60 3" for about $700. That seemed quite high. I wasn't interested so I moved on, but is that what the M60 is going for these days?

I suspect that store jacked up the price quite a bit because the same Five-Seven I bought a few years ago for $980 at another store is being sold for $1174 at the Bass Pro shop. I know the price went up, but this is crazy.

Dang, $700 for a snub .38 ?

I purchased a night stand "never shot" model 60 (made in 1987) a few months ago for $300.

I've bought guns at Bass Pro before, but generally their prices are on the (way) high side...usually right at msrp. Every now and then they'll have a decent sale which brings them down to what everyone else is selling them for.

Model 60 3"

Are you talking the .38 version or the .357 version? Either way the $700 is high [IMHO].
I think our Cabelas has high prices and I bought a .357 Model 60 there, as new in the box, for $460 out the door.

i just bought a unfired 3 inch 357 M60 for about $540. i am pleased with the price considering the msrp is $759. ther was a pro model in the classifieds for $450 you might want to check out if that would suit your needs.

Good One, as new means you are getting a USED GUN.
The Model 60 Ladysmith that I sold last week for $585 was replaced yesterday by the exact same gun, which is now priced at $619. Funny thing, everytime I buy a nice S&W the price has Always gone up and I mean they change their prices at least every 3 months. Of course if I am buying a Sigma or a low priced 22A-1, then I expect the prices to stay about the same...and they generally do.

Clarification

Billydeserthills, the term of "like new in the box" was meant as a description of the condition of the gun not an oxymoron! I know that I purchased a used firearm :)

Too late for that one.... it's mine.... :) and it's paid for!!

I just bought this M-60 vintage 1984 with box for $410 + tax. It's a 3" with square butt and unfired.
