Aloha

Living in Hawaii, we miss out on all the fun stuff.

Can someone explain how it is possible and LEGAL to own a canon or howitzer?

Thanks

Once upon a time owned a full-size Uzi and a Sten but sold them around 2000-2001.

Presently I have two select-fire weapons: a U-prefix S&W 76 and a Sterling Mk4 built on a DLO Sterling tube by John and Stan Andrewski.

I also have two SBRs that I assembled, a semi-auto Norinco 320 Uzi clone with a 10.2" MG barrel and a semi-auto AR15 with a 10.5" barrel.

Just like owning any other Title II piece, be it a machine gun, suppressor, short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun or an AOW, however, a cannon is considered a Destructive Device.

A Sten, and a MAC-10 in 45 for me. I am planning on acquiring a S&W M76 soon. No S&W collection is complete without one. Of course not many of us have complete Smith collections anyway, so there must be another excuse. Maybe I just like 'em.

I do not have any suppressors at this time. I live out in the country and noisy guns discourage people from moving in too close.

I do have some SBS's though.

Paperwork isn't that big a hassle and you don't have to deal with ATF. you just fill out the paperwork, send in two passport size photos of yourself along with a check and settle back and wait a long time. Sometimes even the wait isn't all that long.

I am an 01 FFL also. That is where you get into dealing with the ATF. By comparison owning NFA items isn't anything. FWIW if you ever do need to talk to someone at the NFA branch of ATF you will find them nicer and more helpful than most of the other ATF people. At least that has been my experience. I have called more than once to ask about the status of a form 1 or 4. Their site even lists the names of the people who work there. They are actually helpful. Imagine that from a gov't bureaucrat!!
