I didn't like having all my mags just lying on a shelf. So, I thought I'd try to organize them a little. This helps keep them grouped according to gun/caliber and out of the way:

It's just a magnetic bar I got at Home Depot. I screwed it to the back of the underside of my reloading bench riser. They're out of the way and yet easy to get to.

I underestimated my mags though. I'll need at least two more bars to get them all in there.

Lucky you for not needing more than 3 of those bars to hold all your mags. :)

I've got any number of boxes holding magazines, with magazines scattered throughout my safe, locked steel tool boxes, drawers, plastic & cardboard boxes, range bags (plural) and often just sitting out on the bench awaiting cleaning.

I occasionally try to organize them according to dedicated carry or range use, repair/replacement use, clean or dirty, model/caliber, ongoing round count on the springs (ready to be resprung/repaired), etc ... and sometimes I'm even successful.

How does it work for polymer Glock mags, or aluminum/polymer AR mags? The only steel mags I have are 1911 and I don't have that many of them.

I've got one tote with 72 AR-15 mags alone.

I have the same thing mounted in my safe. My Glock mags will stick to it, but will slide a bit. My magnetic bar is mounted on the door vertically and I put the mags on it horizontally. With the Glock mags, I have to put on mag on the bottom vertically to hold the rest horizontally. Does that make sense?

They do work great. I bought my magnetic bars from Harbor Freight tools. They were $4 each!

I've got one of those large Cabelas ammo cans, the plastic ones with the moisture seal? I keep all of my magazines in it, separated by caliber & pistol, rubber banded together. Its about full so I need to get another one.
