Hey Everyone...I just purchased an SD40VE not too long ago. I took it to the range the other day and it fired pretty good. A couple of FTF's but I blame that on the rounds I was using. I was only able to load about 8 rounds (out of 10...thanks California) which I wasn't too worried about because my Maglula was on order...When I did get the maglula and was able to fully load the magazine, it is very difficult to get the magazine to seat all the way in. I literally have to SLAM it in there. Is this normal? Has anyone found something that has helped this?

Load with the slide open if you want it to go in easily.
When you load a full magazine on a closed slide, you are compressing it another 1/2 cartridge against the bottom of the closed slide. The 10 round mags are particularly difficult.

Time in use helps the magazine "relax" to its designed tension (all springs do this).

OKFCOF,

Thanks for the advise, I will do that from here on out. Does it do any damage if the slide is closed?

I would say it does not, but who knows if you did it all thee time for a long time, left it sitting with that pressure on the slide.
Also inserting the mag in mine sometimes causes the slide to close sending a round into the chamber.
When I am leaving mine without one in the chamber I do it with one less in the mag.

I had the same issue with my SD9VE.... After a few range trips, the magazine spring got broken in and now the mag goes in easily on a closed slide

I always bang my mag in on an empty chamber with the slide closed.
Then I chamber a round by sling-shoting the slide. No AD's This way
