can anyone tell me if the price you pay to get the magpul acs over the ctr is worth it, i know that both of them are very good and have the friction locking system, but is it worth money to get the acs just for the better cheek weld, if that is not the only difference than please fill me in since there is not a place around that has one in stock that i can go and look at in person.

I would say it is all in what you like,I personally think the CTR is a better looking stock, especially on a 15-22.They are both an upgrade from the stock that comes on the rifle. My father just got a 15-22 and the stock is a little floppy,I told him a CTR would solve that problem!

I have experience with several Magpul stocks, and please believe me, for the 15-22 all you need is the MOE. The CTR's friction locking system is much more suited for a combat carbine or at the very least something heavier... I have a MOE on my 15-22 and a CTR (which I also love) on my Bushmaster 5.56. The CTR is nice but I am very glad I got each on the correct weapon.

Now the ACS I thought is GREAT but it's VERY HEAVY, it's huge and not really a Carbine type stock. I sent the ACS for my Bushmaster carbine back, and got a CTR. The ACS is a little too heavy and bulky for my taste, and very expensive at that.

I guess I have the CTR on the "incorrect weapon" but still really like it on the 15-22 granted I have no experience with the MOE. Even without the friction lock locked it is very tight but a little better when it is locked plus things do wear so you know it will always be tight.

The ACS really is a more comfortable stock to shoot. See if any of your friends are running the CTR or ACS on any of their rifles. If they are, get their opinion and, maybe, borrow one or both to try. You'll probably be happy with either one. The ACS does also offer some more storage space. I put a boresnake in the triangular storage compartment of mine.

Here it is after some paint:

Can anyone comment on stock "play movement" with using the MOE on a 15-22?

My factory M4 stock that came on my 15-22 shakes and wiggled like crazy and makes my firearm sound like a Nerf gun every time I do something as simple as pick it up.

Does the MOE fit snug over the buffer tube and get rid of all wiggles? Or is it really necessary to run a locking CTR to eliminate this.

The MOE does not fit shug on any buffer tube I have seen, 15-22 or real AR. It is a little better than some cheap stock buttstocks, but not totally solid. Get the CTR.

I have an MOE on my 15-22 and the fit is very snug. When I installed it I was really surprised at how well it fit. Absolutely no wiggles or rattles at all. It fits every bit as snug as the CTR I have on one of my AR's.

Shawn you have some great setups I will admit. I spent a lot of time and money on my setups so I could feel secure my setups were awesome and showoff worthy, therefore I feel it necessary to give credit where credit is due and other peoples setups that impress me :)

As far as the MOE fitting snugly or having play, I don't really think I can comment because since I have a compliant state deal, and I'm a smaller guy and wanted a CQB style 15-22, I actually put the MOE stock on, and used super glue (an entire tube) to glue it in the fully closed position, including a generous amount on the actual tube, plus I put some on the action of the locking mechanism/handle of the stock. So I have a completely secure, completely locked MOE stock that complete's a very small and very light package. Only problem is I didn't think to install a sling attachment plate before putting the stock on. So I really can't think of a way to attach a single point sling. Right now I am running the strap that came with my Bushmaster 5.56 through one part of my MOE Stock, and then onto the front left rail on the S&W Sling attachment part. Anyone with an idea or if they know of a sling attachment that somehow snaps together or opens up etc or a good idea please share.

And again don't take me wrong. I LOVE Magpul and I love their good stuff. And I love putting too much/too expensive $hit on my 15-22, so go on with your bad self for putting an ACS etc. on. I love them. I just want to make sure peopel get the right ideas that were also explained to me when I was in the decision making process for buying.

Even though this is a very old post, this is the information I was looking for, now I wonder if I can buy a 15-22 with a ctr or must I buy after market?

There is no version that comes with the CTR stock. The MOE comes with an MOE and the PC comes with a VLTOR stock. You will have to get the stock you want.

STR

i went in the middle and got the STR stock. more cheek weld than the CTR or MOE but not as big as the ACS. I am very happy with it and there is no play in it at all. Everyone is different. If you want more cheek weld STR less or same as stock CTR. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the feed back, I'll go for the 811034 (MOE) and try that out first, then if need be I'll get the (CTR) HMMM just thinking the CTR has a nice Quick attach may be worth it in the long run!

You may notice a slight wobble with the MOE stock, mine did have. All you need do is take the stock off and run either a bit of duct tape or a strip of velcro along the 'buffer tube' and reattach the stock, it goes on nice and tight and you can still move it the various positions and there is NO wobble or movement whatsoever. This has been posted before in another thread i have commented on....many peeps have used the same fix for the MOE stock. Which is in my opinion a great stock. :)

I had the CTR for a while but wasn't happy with slight amount of wobble it had. My ACS fits much better and has better cheek weld.

With the position latch on the CTR locked down, there should be NO movement whatsoever. Of course, this presumes you got the mil-spec stock and not the commercial-spec stock. :)

For the least movement and at the lowest price, use velco tape. Using only the felt side, remove stock, stick felt side on the tube, reinstall stock. It will be a lil' stiff to adjust but there won't be any wobble.
