Just saw that movie yesterday for the first time since becoming a S&W Revolver freak. Man what a killer looking M27. No idea what dash it was but it had a pretty prominent role in the movie. Great seen where the bad cop is holding it and commenting on the nice balance and all. Too cool. I also saw "48 Hours" last weekend and saw two great Smiths in that movie too.

It is like watching these movies for the first time again.

Too bad Mel Gibson is not a gun proponent.

I know. His Lethal Weapon movies are why I had to have a 92F all those years ago.

Actually the hardcore anti gunners in that series are Richard Donner, the director and Danny Glover. Glover is a real piece of work. Loves Hugo Chavez.

Funny how those Hollywierd idiots beliefs in gun control don't affect them making money off of violent movies.

Sorry, guys. But I'm sure Gibson carried a Model 29 4". looks like Hogue grips. It is a 4', not 3 1/2". What's the odds he used a 4" 27 when the movie is a remake of "Point Blank" with Lee Marvin (1967)?. A movie where Marvin practiced with a 4" 29 to make recoil look right. I read that somewhere. This, before Dirty Harry (1971). I think Gibson would have stuck with the .44.

Two more things. Now I have to watch Payback tonight (which I have) to see if the barrel is tapered or not. Plus, Lee Marvin's 44 Magnum was purposely a co-star of Point Blank, just like Eastwood's was later on. Yeah, I know. I got too much time on my hands. S--t. Maybe gibson's carryin' a 41! Naw. Blanks would be a hassel.

I watched this yesterday (it's a fine movie in its own right, even if it is a remake) and I could have sworn the barrel was a heavy, rather than a tapered, one.

Looked like factory cocobolo grips to me, too!

I am not a pro but I found it on the IMFDB that it was a M27. Maybe you are right, I don't know. But what makes you so certain, just curious. Educate me because I would love to be able to tell the difference between a M27 and M29 from the quick flashes in the movie. Not being sarcastic, I would really love to know how you guys do that.

neillcallis, you're right about the grips, I think. I said Hogues. But they had medalions. So they're probably factory. I forgot they made finger groove grips.

armybass, the gun just looks "chunkier" than a 357. Lee Marvin deff. carried a 4" 29 in the original and it was a formidable image. I think Gibson might have emmulated that. You're right about the grips as I mentioned in my last post. Gibson's gun is 4". It looks pretty meaty to me. Check out the bad guy at the end of "The Seven Ups". Deff. a 3 1/2" model 27. Where'd you here about Mel Gibson using a Model 27?

Well my source is not very reputable. LOL, I usually go to the IMDB Internet Movie Data Base. SO I would not argue with you guys at all. It does look just like the 4" M29 Nick Nolte had in 48 Hours. I just can not tell from looking at them that fast.
