Howdy!
Let me preface my question by saying that regardless of the finish, my situation is 100% preventable with regular maintenance. That being said, I've been pretty hard on both of my Smiths as far as cleanings go. I basically rotate my Shield with my M&P9c, and I leave them both holstered for simplicity's sake. At any rate, both are now exhibiting small rust spots on the side of the firearm that rests on the non-polymer side of my Aliengear holsters. What's interesting, though, is that it's only on the takedown lever on the Shield, but on the slide of the compact. The heat and humidity down here in San Antonio don't exactly help matters!
That all being said, how many have actually experienced rust on the melonited slide of a Smith? Even with the neglect, I was somewhat surprised to see it! Nothing a little Ballistol can't fix, though.
