A couple of nights ago I went out to dinner with my wife, and stopped at a couple of local gunstores on the way home. I saw a nice looking revolver in the case, and asked to see the model 15, only it wasn't a 15 but a combat masterpiece. Looked it over, checked the price, and put a deposit on it. It is a 4 inch combat masterpiece with a box, with used tools, no sight adjuster, with helpful hints brochure. Got it home today, it is in much better condition than I thought, only a little fading on the muzzle. serial numbers on frame, barrel, cylinder, extractor, and grips match. K1691xx, should be 1952. I can't find any evidence of any rework, I think it is original. I love it, can't wait to shoot it. I have a question about the originality of the box though, one end is marked for a 4 inch combat masterpiece with a paper label, and the other end is marked for a masterpiece 6 inch barrel printed on the box. Serial number is written on bottom, and side in black grease pencil, and the 6 on the masterpiece end is crossed off with the same black grease pencil. Correct box or not?
Don't hate me, but it was $375 plus tax, a total of $405. I know I did real well, but what would value be for everything?
Now the pictures I think the camera needs batteries, and I need practice.

That would be the correct box, they were originally made for the 6" K-22 Masterpiece, and S&W just stuck the paper label on the end anytime one was used for a 4" Combat Masterpiece. As for value, with correct box and "Helpful Hints" brochure, IMO easily a $600+ gun.

That makes me sick, with envy. You did very well. What a great deal on a great gun. The Combat Masterpiece is at the top of my want list. Keep taking your wife out to dinner.

Excellent score. I agree that could be a $600 gun.

My 1951 .22CM shoots more accurately in my hands than any of its longer-barreled brethren. Something about its balance just lets the bullets fall right into the center of the target.

A Merry Christmas indeed!

Conratulations on a fantastic deal. I had to pay more than that for a 1972 vintage 3 screw Model 18. Wanna swap?

A six.. six .. six hundred dollar gun!?!

My esteemed fellow forum members are eatin' Dreamsicles and livin' in Fairy-Gun-Price-Land!

Box: $100 +
Helpful Hints: $40 +
Cleaning rod & brush: I dunno $20 (?)

A 4 inch Masterpiece with numbered stocks that ='s $440 !?!

(Well, YOU pulled it off but I think that's a once in a lifetime find.;))

BTW guns like that are a deal at 750 and don't come along at that price very often.
Cool gun & smokin' deal!

I don't know which is better- the great deal on the combat masterpiece or having a wife willing to stop at gun shops with you. Congratulations on both.

When we go for dinner, I get to eat too, and I like to eat. Also dinner out means I get what I want, so a double win. While I peruse the gun stores, I have dropped my wife off at a clothing store, Kmart, WalMart etc. so it can get pricy, but it works. After 29 years, she puts up with me, she is not into firearms, but can't have everything, she's a keeper.
I lucked into stopping at the correct time, when I picked up the revolver, they told me within 5 minutes of my leaving 3 people came in for the masterpiece.

I'm in total agreement. Assuming of course that you place it on the open market. At auction, you might realize even more than $750. JMO,and worth only slightly more than you paid for it. ;) :)

I'd jump all over that for $750.

If I had it on my table at gunshow, it would be $900 and I wouldn't be in a let's make a deal mood.

IraIII,

Beautiful gun and a great score!

To the other posters...WHERE do You guys find guns like that, in a mint box...for $600? And if you were to list that gun for SALE ,You would ask $600?

NOT trying to start an argument ,simply amazed at YOUR estimation on values much of the time. That gun would be priced in the $750-$900 range locally.

Congrats on agreat deal on a great gun !
Love the "Proud" front site pins and "High Speed Hammer".

Obviously that dealer is not aware of the sudden leap in prices on vintage S&W's in the last few years .

Of course neither was the person that probably only got $100 of trade in value off some trendy plastic high cap 9mm.

You were definately at the right place at the right time.
ENJOY !
