I think you should listen to your instincts. You already have one of the best .22 rifles and suppressors. Just Form 1 SBR it a 4.5" and use the Sparrow.

I've owned 2 integrals and rarely shot them as they are a PITA to maintain. No integral design will be as easy to clean as the Sparrow.

Wait times are crazy now. If you send send it out to IA for an integral, it will be gone for 8 months, 1 year if IA is not in your state. A F1 SBR is just as long but you can still shoot it with the longer barrel while waiting on the F1. I really like my 15-22 SBR, 4.5" barrel and Sparrow and recommend the combo.

Have fun with what ever you decide. Please share a picture (even though you don't want to brag) as it helps others with these conundrums. There's no substitute for experience.

the wait is examiner dependent since they divided them up into sections. Ann Feltner is exactly 6 months for a form 4. form 1 should be the same as it is the exact same kind of check. I spoke with her about the 2 i have in line that will be due at the end of august and she stated they will be on time. Just FYI, you can speak to the examiner that has your section of the country if you like.

Matt, help me understand. If I send off a form 1 to SBR my 15-22, all that entails is just the fee & the paperwork? The gun stays in service during the wait? When the form comes in, do you have to submit paperwork to transfer the gun to the service provider doing the shortening & threading?

Also, I read somewhere where it is legal to have 2 barrels... one short & a standard length & you can go back & forth with no requirement to notify BTAFE. It said they would like to be notified but there is no requirement. This right?

If you do a Form 1 for a SBR, you can keep it until the Form 1 is approved and then send it off the be chopped and threaded. The BATFE will send the Form 1 to your house.

Most threaders do not want a copy of the Form 1. It is not illegal for them to do it as the barrel might be used on a pistol which has no barrel length requirement.

You can use any barrel length or uppers on a registered SBR as long as you keep the one in your possession that was registered.

Seems like a no brainer to me. I would not want my 15-22 to be short barreled all the time but for $200 plus additional barrel, I wouldn't mind having the option to shoot suppressed both ways.

Since I will need to purchase another barrel, where do y'all get them from... S&W? Any source to get the short, threaded barrel initially, as opposed to buying a regular one & working on it?

You can get a replacement barrel from S&W, but not the ejector or the collar/extension that holds the ejector to the barrel as far as I know. Would be nice to have a second upper with short barrel so you could swap back and forth once registered as an SBR. Easiest way for now would be to buy a 15-22 pistol and use it's upper.

Then I would have to outfit my 2nd one with all the goodies that I have on my 1st. They cost more than the gun. Would rather swap out a barrel, to go from SBR to regular.

So getting a spare barrel looks almost impossible, but I was reading a thread here from 3 years ago, and this makes sense. If I want to revert from SBR to normal, why not thread the piece of the barrel that was cut off. One end is already threaded, so just a matter of threading the cut end. This make sense? Might work, seem like the machining would have to be done very well. One other thing to keep in mind is if you ever want to cross state lines with it. In an SBR configuration you have to fill out an ATF form 5320.20. If you configure it as a regular rifle you don't have to fill out the form, but you also can't have the short barrel available if you do cross state lines. This likely wouldn't count since the extension is easily removable.

The machining would have to be incredibly close in colinearity of bore centerlines, eccentricity of one bore to the other and of course the timing of the rifling between the barrel segments would be difficult if not impossible. I'm really good but not that good.

This might have a chance if the extension barrel was free-bored to a diameter large enough to pass the bullet without interference, perhaps .257" or .264". Biggest problem then would be over rotation and sight misalignment.

Seems like a LOT more expensive than having two rifles.

Yes, even if the machining was done properly, it still doesn't turn the 15-22 into a "normal" rifle. Since the addition would not be permanent, the gun would still be a SBR.

For this to work for me, I would need another barrel and they don't seem to be available. Not gonna buy another whole gun for that.

The rifling would not need to be aligned. I've shot a firearm that has mis aligned rifling. While it may not shoot one hole groups any more, it is good enough for minute of bad guy.

It is my IDPA 1911, and it works just as fine as it ever did, and it is still more accurate than I am.

I meant when things return to the way they were before the gun scare happened and all the ammo disappeared. I think I said in 1 of my posts that I cannot currently find much 22 ammo anywhere.

There is hope in sight though, my walmart had a good amount of .40 and .45 pistol ammo when I went last week. Also a good bit of 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 in there at the time. Before there was none of this. Still barren when it comes to .22 LR in walmart, but the gun shops here in Memphis have some of the 50rd packs (usually have a limit to the number you can buy per day though).

If things go back to normal, you'll also be able to buy standard velocity in bulk as well. I'm kicking myself for not getting a case before things went full retard.

Easiest route is perhaps to find a 15-22 pistol and use the upper on your rifle. Finding a 15-22 pistol may not be so easy though.

Not sure if everyone has seen, you can now submit a Form 1 online, which should save you a couple months wait time. This is for trusts and corporations because no fingerprints and photos.

One advantage of the integral can over the SBR is that you do NOT need to notify ATF if your are traveling to or through legal states with a suppressor, where you would have to notify them for travel with, SBR, DD,SBS, Select fire. I do not know how long before traveling you need to notify them. Be Safe,

Which paperwork is only going to take 4-8 weeks? Form 3 dealer to dealer transfers are taking 3-6 months, then Form 4 dealer to individual is 6-9 months right now.

4's are going at 6 months and more.........with a trust!!!!! You can do a form 1 online so i heard now.

don't understand how a trust/llc can take that long when there is nothing to investigate? Job security is suppose.
