S&W's site had news of Jerry winning another national title in the Enhanced Service Revolver category as well as winning a national 3-gun meet.

A rather dominant revolver shooter to say the least, several national 3-gun titles as well.

He certainly shoots a lot but it takes more than practice to be THAT good. Don

Your right, there is this place in Mississippi called the "Crossroads" where you can gain talent for a small fee.

Well, my shooting buddy does not have S&W to advertise his accomplishments, so I'll post it here.

Curt Nichols won the National SSR title for the third time this year. (686 and speedloaders)

We can practice all we want, the VAST majority of us will never be Miculek.

I can throw a football every day for the rest of my life, and not be Roger Staubach...
Play golf and never be Tiger Woods....
Play a guitar and never be Eric Clapton...

exactly.

Jerry is BUILT for shooting a revolver....
He is FAST....
He is KNOWLEDGABLE.....
He is LARGE.......
He is AWARE......

I agree with what has been said, but meeting him is incredible....he is a really big man with big hands....hands that can make a revolver sing at his bidding (like a musician). What an amazing sight...
When Jerry holds an N-frame, it is like me holding and old I-frame (smaller than a J). The ability to pull the trigger that fast (faster than a semi-auto can function)comes with thousands of cycles and an action that is tuned to PERFECTION. (He is a master gunsmith and his family -wife- is a champion and brother-in-law a champion shotgunner and both are CLARKS of Clark pistol fame). He is paid to shoot and he does. He has the natural talent and practice makes perfect.....amazing!!!

Terry

I'll never forget when he was "discovered". It was at the Masters Int. Shooting Championship about 20 years ago. On the Action event he shot the first run of the first stage and everyone looked, was it possible that someone could shoot a revolver that fast??? The S&W PR gal Sherri Collins, took off on a dead run to find Roy Jinks, and before the day was over, he had an offer to shoot for S&W. He is a real genuine nice guy in addition to being a fantastic shot that has gotten even better over the years.

Oh boy! I get to stir the pot this time. If it is his large size that gives him an advantage how did Ed McGivern ever set those unbeatable records? He was sort of short and rotund. I think the reason they did what they have done is because they don't sit around on the internet all day saying "It can't be done...". In fact that is the very reason Ed McGivern got started, to prove everyone else wrong. I agree it doesn't come with just practice, it takes perseverance too. They have nothing more than anyone else except the desire to succeed.

And for anyone who wants to beat them, don't just imitate them, do what works best for you.

I agree with sgt127. Most of us could have a freight train full of ammo and do nothing all day but shoot it and we would never be able to get close to Miculek. He is the Staubach, Woods, Clapton of shooting. Comparing him with McGivern is like comparing Tiger with Hogan. They both are masters but from different eras. It would be interesting to see how McGivern would compare using today's equipment. Especially the timing equipment.

Practice is essential, but none of us are equal. Some have greater physical gifts than other. I've been going to the gym at least three times a week for many years now.

When I attended the police academy several years ago we took a diagnostic PT test at the beginning. I was in the top 20%. Yeah me.

We spent the next ten weeks doing PT at least four if not five days a week. I lost a few pounds and got into even better condition.

However many of those folks who scored below me on the inital PT test scored higher than me at the end.

Why? Because they have greater athletic ability than me. It's just the way it is.

Not all teams are comprised of the top 3% of the athletic gene pool and not all shooters are like Mr. Miculek, Ed McGivern, Bill Jordan or Elmer Keith. Notice two of those guys were short and rotund while Jordan and Miculek were/are big men with big hands.

Mr. Miculek works hard at his sport and it shows, but don't underestimate his god given talent either. The two go together to make him a superstar.

I knew a gentleman in Panama - Jim Piercy(sp?) - who could do better with a 2 inch barreled Smith "J" Frame that any of the other 'Team" members could with the Model 52s we were issued. I know when I left for "OSC(Over Close to Saigon)" he was headed back to the US to join the All Army Pistol Team. I've also been lucky enough to see a couple of the other fellows mentioned above and they all had one thing in common - large hands for their size!

Bill Jordan once did a demo using his Model 19 and while I don't have small hands but I couldn't even reach the Trigger with more than the very tip of my index finger on Bills' gun. He had the well known Jordan Stocks made by Herretts to his specs. Both of these men also had a particularly "Power Filled" handshake.

I believe I also ran into Bill Munden at one point many years ago and he too fit this bill.

Yes.
Whether it be Sports, Music, Art, Science,Medicine, etc.,some people are simply "Gifted"
Regards, Pete

...happy now Jelly Belly?
You misread me on that one MOONDAWG. I don't keep up with all the fantasy magazines, books or other assorted media that makes mountains out of mole hills. I thought Bill Munden was another showman out to make a buck on trick or exhibition shooting and wasn't trying to embarrass anyone. Since my name is Jellybean and not Jelly Belly I guess the Bill/Bob mistake is understandable.

Ed McGivern had a large hand and an unusally short trigger finger.

Last week's "Impossible Shots" on The Outdoor Channel had Miculek standing behind a table with a revolver, an AR-15, and a shotgun loaded on the table.

When the timer went off, he fired and hit five steel knockdown targets with the revolver. Then he picked up the rifle and hit three more of these targets at 100 yards. As the last revolver target fell, it launched a trap clay in the air and Miculek grabbed the shotgun and hit the bird in the air!

All of the above in under 5 seconds!

Amazing!

Elmer Keith had medium size hands but large wrists and a grip like a channel lock plier.

Tremendous strength in his forearms and very cat like hand eye coordination.

It's more than practice, it's the right practice tied to a natural ability and a competitive desire big enough to fill a room.

ALRIGHT!
When are we gonna' quit screwin' around with this? I say we just insist that part of his next contract stipulates he has to submit cells to allow cloning,
DAMMIT!
