Not a bad deal, I assume it's the new style of barrel that is currently available because the picture is of the old style.

What is the difference between the old style and the new? I bought a .357 Sig barrel from Midway right after I got my M&P 40 and it is perfectly matched to my June 2012 production date M&P

You're good then. Here is a pic, the top is old style:

Is there any problem with the old style barrel that would warrant spending money on the new? I have the new; my son has the old--he purchased a modestly used gun that has functioned just fine. But we had noticed the difference.

If you don't have any accuracy issues, I wouldn't worry about it. That pic was used on 10-8 blog in reference to the FS 9mm accuracy issues. If I remember correctly the new style barrels seemed to be more consistent.

They've got the .357 Sig barrel in at Midway also. Wish I had known about that coupon code a day earlier -- I just got shipping confirmation on my backordered 9 mm today. Oh well!

If you change the last digit from 0 to 5, you can get more off on $100 or more non-sale items. Might be worth a call if you want to get a credit or refund.

So you can convert a 40 to a 357 sig or a 9mm?

Can you convert a 9mm to a 40 or 357 sig?

Sorry, you can't go up in caliber. The breech face on the 9mm is too small to accommodate the .40 or .357.

On the 40, the mags are labeled as 40/.357SIG - there are folks that say these mags will handle the 9mm rounds as well except for the last round not feeding.
@ $20 ea. from Botach, I picked up 3 making my conversion cost just a hair over $121 from .40S&W to 9mm. I also bought the .357SIG barrel so all said and done I have:

M&P40 Range Box kit (includes 3 mags) - $469.99 (free ship from Sportmansoutdoorsuperstore.com)
FFL fee - $15.00 (friend pricing!)
.357SIG barrel shipped from Midway - $82.34
3 - 9mm mags from Botach shipped - $59.85
9mm barrel shipped from Midway - $61.34
Total - $688.62

Not too bad to get a 3 caliber set-up! :D

Just to correct - I rec'd my new barrel today and compared it. My 40 barrel that came with the gun is the new style. The 9mm and .357 are the old style.
Since I haven't shot anything other than .40 out of the gun, we will see how it goes with the new barrels. Can't return them once I shoot them so if they don't prove to be their worth, on to the classifieds they will go!

I take it that these are pic's of the 9mm barrel's? When did S&W start shipping out the new version barrel?

As long ago as mid-2010.

I've seen pictures of that "new" barrel profile quite a few times and some of the people say their gun was test fired back in 2010 and others 2011 etc., so I wonder if it could be just different styles from different subcontractors making them or else maybe S&W is mixing the two types slowly using up their stock of old style barrels.

Is ther anyone with the "newer" version complaining of accuracy problems?

Do you mean newer barrel in older gun or newer barrel in newer gun?

Or

Older barrel in newer gun? If his is the case, I will let you knows after next Wed

Sorry, i'm assuming the older barrel was at fault, and nothing else.
