I September of 2012 I purchased an order of 2000 reloading bullets and my credit card provided coverage until the end of March 2014. Yesterday I received an e-mail notice from Midway that the order was cancelled. I called customer service who admitted that they have a 360 day policy that they will not continue an order for more than 360 days and THAT THE POLICY IS NOT PUBLISHED ON THE NET. I asked customer service to reinstate the order [since their policy was not accessible to the public) and they refused and said that they were sorry, but there was noting they could do about it. They also indicated that they would not back order the item because there was not back order, however, their current pricing on the same purchase is considerably higher than the 9/12 order that I left open with them. A shipment of these bullets will be coming in but at a much higher price. I was not quibbling on price but the order status. Regardless of my 20 plus years of ordering from them the essentially welched on the deal. Very unhappy.

Midway did the same thing to me yesterday on some .22's I had on backorder. If it is about price increases, at least they could email and ask if I was willing to pay the increase. Could be time for a new place to shop.

The Small order penalty turned me off.

Larry says he has to charge the fee so he can keep his prices low.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Anytime I have to pay a fee to save money, my scam alarm goes off.

I wonder how long it took for those fees to mount up to the first million dollars in Larry's account?

Oops! Is Midway a supporter of this board? If so we all will be locked out.

I to refuse to buy because of the small order penalty. Especiallly when you could only buy one box of ammo or one magazine. The advertised low price then became not a low price. Like when some places have low item prices and stick you with the super high shipping. Not good business if you ask me.

not real surprised with this. since smiling larry got so big, I just can't handle his policies so I don't buy from them anymore.

They must be doing business with someone. They keep ticking but like the above posts that have not been a source for me for a while.

Do you really expect any company to keep a backoeder on their books from Sept. 2012 until after Jan 2014? Really? IMO you are the one being unreasonable. BTW, these threads only bring out those who have a beef with the company in question and they pile-on. Really, backorderd for 16 months and you want that backorder kept active??? Not many companies would keep the order on their books for 360 days, most are canceled well before that and with good reason.

So, they take your money and let you backorder an item.
Then, instead of shipping your item, they cancel your backorder and expect you to pay more for for the same item.
Nice.
How dare you expect Midway to honor their contract with you?

So, what's this "small order penalty" they have? I'm not familiar with it.

I quit buying from them and started buying from Widener's and Mid South, when smilin' Larry got too damn big for his britches.
Remember when Midway's slogan was "We pay the freight for the first 48"?
I do. I used to be a fan, but then they started screwing their customers on prices and shipping.
Then, I started buying from Widener's and Midsouth. Both are cheaper and have things in stock that Larry doesn't.

I also got tired of Midway's lack of stock. Items would be shown as available for backorder and expected to arrive by X date.
Then, X date comes and goes. Next thing you know, Larry has changed the item status to unavailable-no ETA.

Isn't there something in US Postal regulations or some federal law concerning back orders and the amount of time a seller can keep an item back ordered?

I seem to recall that there is something, and I would look into that as a cause before accusing the company of something insidious.

On the other side of the coin, I'm a cheap ***, and a bit of an a-hole (sometimes).
Just wanted to get that out there, in case anyone takes me too seriously.

Plus, I can be a bit sarcastic. It's also often hard to tell when I'm joking.

Hey Arch, if the company permitted the backorder, then they should damn well honor it.

For how long? What it's no longer possible? I have a transport company. I told people their cars would be delivered today in St Louis. My driver got stopped in Minneapolis due to weather. Highway closed. I promised. Should I "Damn well honor it"? Sometimes buyers/customers are such children, refusing to understand anything but me me me. I want I want I want...

I can see another post going something like ......I bought blablabla from Midway and almost 2 year later had forgotten about but they charged me and delivered. I wish they would have called and told me because I don't need or want it anymore and want my money. Midway are xx xxx for taking my money and not reminding me about it. They should know that people might forget their own xxxxx. ........and then everyone piles one about how that company sucks and are elitist cheats trying to steal money from good hard working folk.

I my opinion if you didn't loose anything nothing happened.

I don’t order from Midway like I used to. Many of the things I need are either on backorder or they are not accepting backorders. Midway sure has changed over the past year-and-a-half. :(

No they do not take your money. They do not charge for a back order until it ships (if it does)

For those that do not realize that there is sort of a crisis on reloading supplies (getting better) at the time, they expected re stock of items. It's not Midways "fault" Nor Larrys. Business need to do things at times to stay alive. Then found they can not get the item a year later. If and when it comes in it will be more expensive to them, So the company should sell it at a loss?

I doubt any of you have ever been to a LARGE online company warehouse and see what is involved in stocking ordering, shipping, billing thousand and thousand of items. Take a tour of LL Bean, Dr's Foster and Smith, Midway, Boownells and see what's going on.

If you don't like Midway and just want to complain buy items from somewhere else (they don't have stock either).

Less than $25 incurs a s/h fee as they do not have little elves running around just to pack up a .50 cent item for everyone that wants some little thing.

Order from Brownells and see how much is costs to ship??

How about Natchez and their hidden s/h fee??

Of course there is always CTD, Ever buy Dirt? it's very expensive here

MidSouth, sure they always have stuff in stock:rolleyes:

Lord I hope there is no federal law about how a company should handle backorders. That is really scary.
Read rule3's post. its everything I would say. If you have never run a business, big or small, you are just clueless. When people don't get what they want when they want it, they whine. Please, name one company that has had everything you want at a price you want to pay consistently for the last year and a half.

Haven't dealt with Midway for a couple years and don't plan to.
My impression was Larry has gotten so big he has forgotten the folks that made him that way.

Same thing that happened to Wards, Sears and many others. I don't order from them unless I have NO other choice. I don't care if it cost twice as much. Just the way I am.

I wonder if this forum is big enough to form some preferred pricing arrangement from one of the suppliers--since we all could funnel our business in their direction--for preferred pricing. Nice idea. Maybe we would not get screwed.
