MIM parts don't bothering me. -- But at the same time (~1997...?) S&W also changed the internal lockwork mechanism. Possibly due to new production methods/possibilities.

But what exactly is this change imlies? -- Is it major, or minor changes? -- Is it one, or is it several changes? -- Is it look and feel, or is it functional changes? -- etc?

Do you have something to enlighten me with? :)

The change to MIM parts was simply a parts material change, which means that design specifications for the lockwork didn't change. The most recent change to the lockwork was the addition of the internal lock, I think that was in 2002. Previous to that they dropped the screw on the front of the trigger guard sometime in the early 60's which involved a design change for the cylinder stop spring. Further back in time, when I do not know, they redesigned the complete lockwork in order to shorten the DA trigger stroke.

Gee, I noticed that the firing pin fell off the hammer nose about the same time as the MIM happened.

Isn't the hammer assembly a part of the lockwork?
