I'm wondering what anyone knows about MO Hog Hunting Laws in the Ozarks (South Central Area). I do have permission to hunt a property and I'm wondering about the Mark Twain National Forrest that's connected to it. Do I need a license for HOGS? Any info would be appreciated I also realize I have to check the laws too but I want to hear what ya'll have to say.

Also if have any stories about hunting hogs fill me in even if ya make another thread.

It looks as though...

Hogs can only be taken during a "big game" season, such as deer or turkey season on public land, and you have to have a small game license or a deer license if you haven't filled in all your tags on your deer license. Also, you can only use .22 rimfire firearms, or shotguns with #4 or smaller.

However, on qualified, private land, they may be taken at any time with any firearm. However, I can't tell from the the regulations if that only applies to the landowner himself, or anyone that has permission.

I would think that any muzzleloading firearms or bows could be substituted for rimfire rifles, but I didn't dig for that information- I'm just going on NC and GA regulations as a precedent...which is a possible fallacy. Hogs must not be very large or tough in MO, since they can only use rimfires! We use buckshot, hard cast slugs and .300 Win Mag BAR's down here. :p

I'm planning on a south Georgia hunt later in the spring, and going to take my hot loaded .35 Remington Model 14 Remington. with me. ;)

That seems to read that you can use a pistol or revolver, but any rifle has to be .22,(good luck), Shotgun as it says with #4. It doesn't actually say the handgun needs to be .22. But I'd call F&G there to be sure.

If you're aiming to piss the hog off I guess shooting one with a .22 might be a good idea.

I don't know about you guys but I'm gonna use a 460 magnum S&W Revolver LOL...with BIG LONG LEAD BULLETS. hehehe

It's just ridiculous to hunt a hog with a 22 pistol. Thank s for all the info good people, anymore?

Anybody know how far north the feral hogs get in Missouri?

I occasionally hunt deer on a friend's family farm in Catawissa, near Six Flags.

We've been thinking about hunting coyote on the farm since they've been such a nuisance in the area.

Hogs would be a lot more fun, since they're tasty.

Do they get as far north as Fulton/Columbia? I went to Westminster College in the '70s. I wasn't aware of them being there then.

I don't think they're that far north but they may be and if they are the same laws apply.
