Cougar015 and I are having a conversation on colored front sight inserts. Does anyone have a factory box marked with a "RR" on the white end label or bottom of the box? Help appreciated. Mike

Of the three guns I have with the RR front sight two are class 'A' factory engraved and the third one is a steel frame that was sent back to the factory for a nickel finish so perhaps they were all special guns.

Hello Mr. Brad to the rescue! Im looking for m-39 or 39-2 blue or silver boxes.
Or were 39s that have RR all special order or after market?

Sorry to disappoint you Mr Mike,
Ive never even seen a factory red ramp 39/39-2 in real life never mind a box.

I really never thought about it before, I imagine the guy I bought it from did it but he passed. Everyone called him Buffalo because when he ran it sounded like a buffalo running. Great guy.

Mr. Brad, were the pre-19 and pre-29 the first S&Ws offered with the dovetail front sight insert?

I do not know when the fs insert was first offered.
Iirc the red ramp white outline was standard on the four inch .44 Magnums, if it was also standard on the 6.5" its probably the first (only?) Model where they all came that way.
The RR/WO was an optional upgrade on the Combat Magnum but I see more without than with.
Doesnt surprise me because the forty four magnum was probably aimed at the hunting market where the combat magnum was intended to be a lighter 357 duty weapon.
