Speaking of 3" K-frames, if S&W would bring back the Model 547 9mm with a 3" heavy barrel and a round butt in blue and stainless, they'd sell a boat load of them. Prices on original 547's have gone stupid. These look like a 3" heavy barrel Model 10 or 3" Model 13. The Model 547 had a unique extractor that worked with the 9mm rim, so no moon clips were needed. Even so, I would accept moon clips as a compromise.

A longer barreled adjustable sight version would be cool as well. Since recoil is low, it could be made like the Model 14 with a 6" barrel.

Just make sure the barrels and cylinders are traditional. I had slab sided barrels and cylinders lacking flutes. It's why i won't buy the Model 627. I will if S&W offers it with the original barrel, not the slab sides one with what looks like an 1875 Remington revolver sail underneath it. Just copy the traidtional blued Model 27 in stainless, including the top strap and barrel checkering. Is that really too much to ask?

And another gun that badly needs to be made in a 3" model is the new Model 69. A 3" version would divert a lot of sales going to Charter Arms Bulldogs.

I agree. All you can get now with a 3" barrel is a 686+ and that 7 shot cylinder adds width I don't need and the full under lug barrel adds weight I don't want.

I want a nice six shot K-frame revolver with a 3" barrel with a plain shrouded ejector rod.

I'm carrying a 2 3/4" Speed Six today because it's too hot and sweaty for my Model 13 (which needs oiled every evening), and I can't find a 3" Model 64 or 65.

I'd also buy a new version of a 547 with a 3" barrel as well.

And I also have no desire for fluted or slab sided barrels. Ugly by any standard.

One thing being overlooked is WHY a 3" barrel is the best length.

Aside from a bit better powder burn time, a 3" barrel allows a FULL LENGTH EJECTOR ROD, which means the empty cases completely clear the cylinder. A 2" or 2.5" barrel has a short ejector rod and the cases do not completely clear. This means sometimes, especially in a dirty gun, you have to pluck a case or two out.

True. My old man has a ruger lcrx 3in and the ejector rod isn't long enough to extract fully. Kinda lame.

A 3" K-frame is the best balance between handiness and utility. S&W are missing the boat on this. I really like my M-66 3", but my pair of M-65 ladysmiths are not for sale. 38+P, .357, 9mm are all good in 6shot 3".

I just picked up a 3" Model65 in my part of NC(Jville), I stumbled upon it by accident. My partner needed his ankle gun inspected and while I was looking there it was!
