Ladies & Gentlemen,
Recently a LGS has added a couple of S&W to their inventory.

This one has peeked my interest,

Mod. 10-2 1 7/8" barrel.
Back story, local retailer kept the piece near the register untill he retired and closed the store. As far as I can determine it is unfired. No marks on recoil shield, and an absolute minimal drag line on the cylinder, no holster wear, or other signs of use.
Sadly the box or papers didn't survive.

It is on consignment, and as often seems the case, IMHO is overpriced at $750.00.

The store has flatly refused to entertain any offers

I'm sorry but at this time I have no seriel number, or pictures.

Am I being cheap, and this the find of a lifetime, or is the estate / retailer overly optimistic?

Buy the gun not the story?

I wouldn't buy it at that price, especially without box and papers, but knocking off a few bucks wouldn't hurt.

Give it time. It'll either come down, or get sold to somebody that has to have it.

It is a somewhat scarce model 10 variant, but it is high even if NIB with the box and contents. One-third less would be about right.

S&W Model 10's are stating these days in the low $300 bracket.

Real nice one's are going in the $400 - $500 bracket. I'm guessing the 2" barrels are going for more.

That one is going to depend on just how bad someone wants it.

You can always go back and make a "standing offer" for a price you feel comfortable with............then wait and see!!

I was looking at model 10 snubs on gun broker yesterday, they range from $350 for a rough looking 10-2 to $550-650 for a decent condition 10-5. Nothing that looks as good as what you are describing so they may not be too far outside the realm of fair pricing compared to whats out there. If its not worth that much to you I would wait them out and see if they budge on price if it starts collecting dust.

Overpriced. Excuse me while I rant for a moment. Not all firearms are worth a fortune! Pristine condition or not! Unless that sucker was owned by the king of Denmark and carried in Patton's back pocket, it's still just a model 10 S&W! They made tons, literally tons of 'em! Sorry folks. Where's the Tylenol.

Allow me a few nitpicks first:

This one has peeked my interest
I believe you mean "piqued." :)
(Just a little vocabulary building for you here.)

Mod. 10-2
As Alan noted, this variant was not made for very long - just a matter of months. So it is rather scarce (although not "rare.")

1 7/8" barrel
You are correct on the actual measurement. Just so you know, however, this is normal for what S&W nominally identified as the 2" barrel.

Now I have to join the crowd. This gun is very much overpriced. Unless you are made of money, pass at that price. The idea of a standing offer at or below $500 makes sense. Good luck!

I have a Model 10-7 SB snub that is one of my favorites, is in almost perfect shape, but not worth anywhere near $700 +. Pass it by, there are others out there at reasonable prices.

Agree with most all. Bought a nice 2" nickel no dash Mod. 10 a couple of months ago. Paid $400 OTD. If real nice, might be a $500 gun.

My favorite pawn shop loans about 100 for most decent revolvers ( folks are still on the semi-auto craze here) and wholesales those that are not redeemed. I recently picked up an almost new blue Model 10 2" C prefix five screw for $140, but that does not mean that is all they are worth. I see nice ones in our market priced closer to $550, +/-.
