Model 10-5 and +P. ???

splicer- The standard response from S&W is no. Regardless of what model you ask about. This is what their lawyers tell them to say. They will tell you the Heavy Duty 38/44 should not be used with +P despite the fact that the 38/44 load is way more powerful than any +P could hope to be.

All sounds right to me. M1Gunner, ever heard of the 547? K-frame, 9MM, and it was basically killed by the "wonder-nines". It has no problem digesting 9MM pressure stuff, way above even .38 +P. There's a similar argument for the 9MM +P world. It's fine in modern, well made firearms, when you start dipping into the cheap brand stuff, then you run into problems. S&W doesn't really fit into that arena in either autos or revolvers.

I have a copy of a 1954 S&W ad and it states that the "Military and Police .38 Special" (M10) will handle ".38 Special Super Police" which I think?? is the .38-44 load which is almost (in some cases IS) a .357 Magnum load.

I side with SaxonPig. I load my K-Frame S&W .38 Specials with 158 grain lead bullets to velocities of 900 to 950 fps. I don't know where that "fits" as far as Plus-P but it is a potent load that is safe to shoot.

I am re-posting here to correct my mistake. I would not want someone to make the same mistake I did.

After further research it appears, according to a 1941 catalog and better understanding of the 1954 catalog that the "Super Police" load was the 200 grain bullet in .38 Special, and it was NOT loaded at high velocities.

Here's two pages from the 1941 S&W catalog. Note the ammo fo reach revolver.
