I recently acquired a beautiful Model 10-5 blued 4" tapered/pencil barrel with no diamond checkered grips. My father was a career police officer and his duty weapon was one like this. Would like to know approximate production year (serial #C8702XX). Also wondering about when grips transitioned from diamond to no diamond. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Very likely 1966.
A Model 10 would normally have shipped with PC Magna stocks. The management order directing that the diamond be eliminated on the PC Magna stocks (both K and N frames) was issued on October 11, 1965. Some diamond stocks shipped after that date, until they were no longer available.
