Hi fellow smith and wessoners. I promise I'm not trying to be that guy (lazy). But I'm not having any luck with my search on the timeline. It's a model 10-6 pinned heavy barrel 4" serial#D997057. Trying to find around what year it was made. Can you folks point me in the right direction? I'll try to post pics when I can figure that out last few times I've tried have been unsuccessful. Thank you Joe.

I have a 10-6. My book says they were made from 1962 to 1968.
10-5 on the left & 10-6 on the right.

Thanks everyone for your help. That was kind of my point. It's very confusing (at least for me) to try and pin point what the exact year it was made. I bought it from my lgs it's never been shot perfect condition but no box or papers. and my dealer wasn't much help either. But $750 plus tax I'm happy. I'll post pics as soon as I figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks again. I love all of you good folks on this forum. Joe

I have no idea what book you are looking at, but the Model 10-5 and 10-6 were made from 1962 until 1977. At that time, they were replaced by the 10-7 and 10-8, respectively.

At D997057, yours is almost certainly from 1977, as Truckman stated.

My 92 year old aunt gave me one my uncle bought in 1963 about a year before she died. It doesn't have the box or docs and has a little sock drawer wear but not much. I had a similar police marked model 64 already, but I didn't give it heirloom status. He's been gone for 39 years and was one of my favorite uncles (I had quite a few) so it means something to me. I painted the front sight orange, put some fake ivories on it with a Tyler-T, and occasionally shoot it and use it as a house gun. My son and fellow gun nut will get it when I take my dirt nap.

I just rescued a 10-6 from an overzealous cerakoter who was going to bead blast the blue with 98% of it's finish and coat it tactical grey! He tore it apart and it's in pieces... got it for $200.

I believe YOM is 1967
