Model 10-9 Snubby

I bought a used Model 10-9 2" round butt at the gun show in Austin today. I can't believe how nice this feels in the hand. It's in very good shape with a light turn ring and a small scratch on the top of the side plate. Also, the previous owner put a little white paint on the front sight but it should be easy enough to remove. I am kind of curious about the grips. There is a verticle groove on the front of each grip. It's finished just like the rest of the grip so I assume it came from the factory this way. I've never seen this before. Does anyone know why they were made like this? I'll include several pictures and also a DOB request SN:BKV5XXX. Thanks, Ham

Hi, I have never seen the factory put grooves into the grips like that...It could have been done to put some sort of grip adapter on the gun.

neon8 thanks for the info. Really nice shape for 17 years old. Panama, I thought about some type of grip adapter too but it sure looks like they left the factory that way. The finish in the grooves looks the same as the rest of the grip. I asked the seller but he just shrugged.

I think PJ310 nailed it. I don't think it's factory but grips are the easiest change on a revolver you can make, if you want to.

Thanks to those who replied. I guess it's not some super rare and highly valuable variation made for the CIA or some secret ninja society. The grips are kind of strange though. Still love the gun. I think I need a Model 19 2 1/2" now.

The K frame Military & Police revolver is, in my honest and humble opinion, the epitome of what a fighting, combat revolver should be. Like GF said - "everything you need, nothing you don't."

I have it's stainless steel sibling - the model 64 snubbie. It's by far the most accurate little revolver I've ever owned.

Nice gun! I have one and I find myself carrying it more and more. It's isn't near as nice as yours though. Here is a pic of my gun. It's like a 38 cal Fitz Special! I just got the hammer spur cut off and the gun set up DAO. I like it a lot better that way. I still dream of one of those NY 1 2" Model 64's.

My model 10-5 snubbie is one of my most accurate revolver. I am kinda feeling guilty of relegating it as a truck gun since it is "cosmetically challenged". My son likes to use it the most whenever I take him to the range to shoot with me.

Those are Hideout grips. Brownells sells them. They are really ugly but they feel great. They are cheap and almost indestructable too. If someone would make them out of nice wood that would be cool.
