Model 10 No Dash, 2 Inch, 4 Screw, Round Butt

I'm excited about this recent find. Serial number is C46046X so it may be a mid to late 1960 gun. This model 10 no dash sports a 2 inch pinned barrel, blued finish, round butt frame with its original serial matching diamond checkered grips.

Condition is excellent for a 57 year old gun. It has a few imperfections on the top strap and the grips have a ding or two, but overall the blueing is excellent with not a hint of freckling or pitting/rust. Gotta love the desert climate!

After negotiating with my favorite local gunstore and redeeming my $100 buyer rewards card, I walked out the door with this lil honey for $320. Not bad considering its a 4 screw round butt snubbie

No dash model 10's are not very common, especially with a 2" barrel. Of the hundreds of 10's on gunbroker, you rarely see them. I have C444xxx with a 5" barrel. Enjoy it.

Nice gun! Possibly shipped in 1959, my 2" square butt #C470xxx lettered as shipped Dec. 1959. And as we know without a letter we are all guessing.

Some other Forum Members may have its Cousin, but I have its Brother.

Mine is also a 10 no dash with a square butt making it a Brother vs. a round butt Sister.

Anyway, mine is serial number C471036 and was shipped from the S&W Factory on August 26, 1959 to Teague Hardware in Montgomery, Alabama. It was S&W Factory Marked Montgomery Police Department on the back strap and on the right side of frame below the cylinder with the number 174.

The Family DNA matches since it also has 4 screws and a matching serial number diamond checkered grips.

Thanks for all of the positive comments and pictures of your old snubs Does anyone know if there were more square butts produced than round butts or vice versa?

Also, for the guys with the airweight model 12s, do you ever shoot them? I used to have a 12-3 that was cracked under the barrel that I sold to a friend as a parts gun. Seems like every 12 I see in person has this crack, so maybe those are the only ones that hit the market nowadays.

I think I may letter this one since I'm intrigued about the ship to location and date. I'd love for it to be a 1950's gun, this one is almost twice my age! Also, it shot like a top today at the range with 158 grain SWC standard velocity I had loaded up. The round butt fits so perfect in my mitt and the serrated trigger was icing on the cake.

Yep, I carry and shoot mine some. I gave it a thorough checking over before I bought it to make sure there were no cracks in the frame.

I sort of collect 4 screw guns and have several. I have never seen a RB model 10 no dash and I have been keeping an eye out for one. I'm sure thousands were probably made but I just personally ain't seen one. So please anyone who has one, post a pic.

That is a good looking real "CLASSIC"! I have a 10-5, 2" RB descendant from 1974. I really enjoy shooting it. Bob

Square butts outnumber round butts. The majority of the Military & Police revolvers came with the square butt. It wasn't until the mid 1990s that S&W decided to produce most revolvers with round butts.

To me, anyways, it made sense to do this. It is easier to make a set of grips that transform a RB to SB than to do the opposite.

Besides, I like RB revolvers. They fit my smallish hand better.
