I bought a S&W snubbie Sunday, the guy I bought it from had it marked as a Model 7 and after checking my book, no such animal as a model 7. The marking on the hinge area where it usually has the model number has the numbers 3993 7 and the serial number is C 422XXX. It's a six shot, 2 inch barrel, square butt, not as big as my 66 but bigger than my wifes lady smith. On the barrel the & mark is cursive style. Any ideas? Thanks:confused:

Model numbers started in 1957 so if made in 1960 it should have one but on occasion they missed stamping guns. The C prefix is definitely a Military & Police (Model 10).

Thanks for the info guys. It's a keeper, like someone bought and put it up on the shelf for 50 years.

I also have an unmarked 2" Model 10 with the box. The gun is not marked anywhere with the model number, but the serial number on the box matches the gun and the box is marked "Model 10".
