I bought this 1 (14-3) August 2014. G.B. purchase. No box or anything. Just a super nice shooter. $410, shipped & insured. Been very happy with it. What I am eluding to, is that I think you can do better. Bob

I think it's close enough to reasonable to get it. I love my -3; buttery smooth action and very accurate. They don't come up all that often. I say go for it.

A lot depends on how you define 85% . . .
Even if that is an accurate assessment, you will potentially get a lot of shooting pleasure out of that revolver for that money. If the actual condition is 5% to 10% higher than you estimate, the price is probably a bit low.

Of course, the guy writing this response loves the .38 Masterpiece series so well that he can't tell you how many of them he owns/has owned. He has lost track. He'd probably buy this one "just because." :D

It's a reasonable price. Buy it now. You won't miss the money, even if a few dollars more than what you've been advised. But your enjoyment will be ten-fold for years to come.

Of course, generally Pawn Broker and local gun store cases are
loaded with the Model 14-3 so just turn around and go buy one of those others.

What UNcleEd said..........You'll make more money next week....In the mean time you could be enjoying your Smif.

It sounds like the revolver is in good condition, now it's a matter of how bad do you want it. Actually $575 isn't too bad because good used Smiths are getting harder to find and prices are going up. You should also ask the dealer if the owner is willing to accept an offer and then make one. I've had situations where I've asked and the owner immediately came down $100. Also, some owners will tell a dealer to ask so much but be willing to come down so much to get a quick sale.

Thank you for the replies. I stopped at the dealers shop this morning and, asked him to relay a counter offer to him, I'll keep my fingers crossed....I just know I'll buy it regardless...sigh, I'm just weak when a Smith rolls around. My wife just laughed, she said you better hurry and, make room for it. Oh boy. Bit again. Will it ever end.....I doubt it.

Greetings all -
I just joined the forum today and saw this thread.

It just so happens I have a 14-3 6" BS in my collection. I bought it shortly after joining LAPD. In the early 70's new recruits were issued 4" K-38's. All my TO's carried 6" S&W or Colt Phytons. Want to be salty, I went out and bought the 14-3. Shortly thereafter, the department issued a order all 6" issued weapons had to have the barrels cut to 4" (to conform with new standards). I decided to put my 14-3 away for the duration. I still have the original box and paperwork.

Any idea what the gun is worth today? I would post pics but haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Dennis04, Welcome to the FORUM! 14-3's are pretty hard to beat in my book! You need to be more specific about your gun's condition to get an appraisal. Pictures would help, but it can be difficult the 1st time. (I am old) But if it is very nice, I would say $600+. That varies with where you live also. Bob

In my Country you will be paying $13000 (U$S 900) for a revolver Model 14 in 85% NRA condition!!!!!

Good morning all,
My 14-3 is a normal double action. The condition is NRA excellent. It came with standard K/L square Diamondwood grips.
I would post photos be haven't figured that out yet. Any suggestions?

I bought my Model 14-3 in 1978, mainly because it was priced so low and looked like new and I thought I could flip it or trade up. I had some .357's and couldn't understand why people bought these K-38's when they could have the same sized gun in .357 with a M-19.

I shot it a few times and realized why. They shoot beautifully, with swaged, cast or jacketed bullets. I won my first shooting match in a league with it. I have shot a short bazillion ton of ground squirrels (we call them picket pins and "ground grizzlies") and jack rabbits with it. It is one of the guns I hope to still own when I die.

Diamondwood, to the best of my limited knowledge was not around at that time. Bob
