What is the correct instruction pamphlet for a 1977 K38 Masterpiece, Model 14-4? Could you post a picture of the front page? I am looking for one, but do not know what the correct version should be. Any help would be much appreciated.

This 14-4 shipped on July 21, 1980. You can see the top part of the spec sheet in the box. I bought this gun new and everything that came with it is still in the box.

Hi nfa1eab,

Please clear some of your PM's. Your mail box if full.

From my 1980 Model 14-4.

Thank you,

Eric,

Does your instruction sheet look the same as the one above posted by Dave? My serial number is a couple hundred away from yours.

No, not exactly the same. The one obvious difference that I see at a glance is at the bottom of the first page. The company/owner name and address is presented differently.

Since the pamphlet was revised in October of 1978 I would think a gun that shipped in 1977 would have a sheet that is different from the one D Brown posted.

Yep, good catch. I did not notice the rev date on D Brown's example. In contrast, mine simply reads "05-01-0177 S & W No. 5100A"

Since 24K up to 24K6700 is a 1978 serial number, I doubt your 14-4 shipped in 1977.

Interesting. The serial number list I have shows up to 24k9999 as 1977. It's a list I pulled off this forum, but I do not know it's source.

The Standard Catalog shows all 24K numbers in 1977, but it isn't correct. A more detailed list I was given several years ago shows the 24K breakdown thus:
24K1 to 24K6700 in 1977
24K6701 to 24K9999 in 1978
Once in a great while, there will be some variances even from this list, but I don't see that very often.

The lists in the SCSW should always be viewed as estimates. In the K series, it becomes much less accurate when you get to the numbers with digits before the K. AND actual ship dates can always vary from what is in the book.

Thanks for the more granular info Jack. My serial is 24K14xx, so I assume that means 1977. Seems I need the pamphlet without the 10/78 revision. Although I guess it could depend on when it shipped. Were the completed guns boxed when produced, or did that happen when they were shipped? Not that it matters, just curious.
