Model 14 - if we do this right it can be an ultimate thread

Well, okay, Bud Jr.
BUT, if it was made after 1982, it isn't REALLY a Model 14. :(

Or so says the Ultimate K-38/Model 14 Snob! :o

Seriously, it's hard for us old guys to admit or get used to the idea that the restart in 1991 was actually the same model line, no matter what S&W called it (with a full underlug, for crying out loud?). So, I usually don't even think about the dash 5 and higher when I'm talking about the K-38/Model 14.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)
Jack

You talk big, but bet you would jump all over a full lug in nickel. ; ) Actually, the Twelve Revolvers were 1990 and had no locks. I have a Model 14-3 that is nickel, but was more than likely taken back into production by a salesman to be finished in nickel with an N on the cylinder, 8 3/8" barrel, and a gold bead added to the front sight. I know it is factory nickel plated, one way or the other. Also have a Model 14-2 6" with diamond targets that has been refinished in nickel, though most likely not at S&W. Have yet another that was refinished nickel but most likely not at the factory. Beggers take what they can get.....til something better comes along. The real, old nickels are RARE, except for the 14-2 Daytons.

Where's the pictures?

Late to the party as usual. On holidays for a couple of weeks......This one is from 1953 and continues to make me look like I know what I'm doing after several thousand rounds.

Well, I think the explanation (or part of it) lies here:

It's hard to see how Bowen could have made the charge holes satisfy these specs if they were already full bored .38 Special holes. It is akin to why he needed a .22 caliber barrel to bore and rifle to a different twist than that found in S&W .38 barrels. What I don't get is why he couldn't have simply bored out the .32 barrel. Why back all the way up to the Model 17 barrel? Maybe he just couldn't bring himself to bore out that Model 16 barrel. Maybe he had another use for it. Model 17 barrels would have been a lot more plentiful.
Jack

Well guys, the answer is simple. The Model 16 barrel was a 4" and I needed a 6". A 6" Model 17 barrel was not hard to find online while a 6" Model 16 barrel was just not available. So I used what I had on hand and sold the Model 16 barrel...again online...for a lot more than the Model 17 barrel cost me.

As to the rarity of the Model 16? Never really an issue. It wasn't like I was chopping up a 3rd Model HE in 44 Special. There are plenty of Model 16s out there at very reasonable prices and I knew going in that I'd never get my money out of the gun. But, I already have in how well the gun has helped me perform in competition. After all, that's what its all about.

some 14's and like other models

UGLY !!!!!! COME ON !!!! As far as shooting, the 4" is a 1 hole gun at 25. The 6" are 2" at 50 as they came. I like the old looks too but the lugged models shoot so easy.
The 4" top left is a 15-6 (when they replaced model 14, same frame barrel configuration as a 4" 14.
6" STLS is model 68, 38 only Got some others around if I can find the photos.
Goodyear Davis grips on shooters others are safe queens, well kinda, 14 -5s and -6s no 7s.Would like to find one, I think they are all roundbut, and add a 3" barrel,, yum!yum! Bob

I don't care how you go about doing things to your guns, but.....

Please tell me where all these 16's are at period. Let alone where they are at at reasonable prices. I'll buy a couple of them.;)
