Model 15, double score!

My son and I stopped at a LGS today to pick up a few small things. While browsing around I happened upon a back gun case where 7 or 8 well used Model 15's lay on a top shelf. Security guard company trade-in pieces. I had the man lay them out for me. Typical condition, lots of holster wear, only one showed real damage (rear sight). All of them were in good or better mechanical condition, cylinder cranes were not sprung, timing was spot on and the actions were smooth.

I had been thinking of buying a model 15 for some time for target shooting and nostalgia (dad had one and I carried one on occasion as an Air Force security specialist oh so many years ago).

At $219.00 each I couldn't resist, my son and I each put one on lay-away.

That's a good price for a solid model 15. I bought one in January and have been totally impressed with the how smooth the action is, and how tight it groups its shots at 46 years old. I'd buy another in a heartbeat for $219. Nice buy for you.

One time a guy told me that his father, going to a nursing home, wanted to sell "a revolver." I said, "bring it by, we'll take a look at it." He did. It was a 15 still in the blue box, papers, etc., with a box of W-W 158-gr missing six. Dad had apparently bought it as a hedge against the "coming collapse," fired the obligatory cylinder-full to make sure it worked, cleaned it and put it on the top shelf of his closet. Years went by, no collapse, and Dad now wanted his money out of it. I asked, "how much," and the answer was, "what he paid for it, $125." I bought it.

While I was with a police dept in Oregon, I was issued a model 15-2 4" in excellent condition. I asked if I could purchase it and they told me to get three bids. They took the middle bid and I bought it for $55.00. THis was in 1975. Had it ever since and plan on keeping it.

I have two 15-2s and they are the best shooting 38s I have ever shot. They even shoot better than a heavily modified Model 10-5 PPC pistol I used when I was in to that "back in the day".

My friend who held a 28-2 for me for a year is now holding his 15 until next year.

I'd say 90% on the blue, tightest lockup of any S&W I've ever held, worked trigger and grip adapter. $350.

You can't go wrong for a shooter grade 15 in that price range. I have found two in the last couple of years. Each shows some holster wear, but they are otherwise mechanically perfect. Both are literal tack-drivers too!

Hello, glad to locate this forum.

I found the same deal at Don's Weaponry in North Little Rock back in early December. I brought another one home yesterday and took it out for the first time. Like the others I got from the same lot it shoots excellently and has that great action. I got this one for $199 and feel very good about it.

As of about noon yesterday there were several 15-3 including one that appeared to be somewhat of a project for $149. There was also a few 10's there as well. Don's a good guy to do business with. He spent quite a bit of time with me during my purchases.
