Hello
Got this last sunday
scratches under the barrel (was supported on something awful?)
minor marks on cylinder and a scratch on the right side S&W logo but otherwise fine.
Haven't test fired it yet, local .22 range is closed because.
Serial number 63248X.

"Model 17-2 in K22 masterpiece box"
That box looks perfectly correct for a Model 17-2. Were you expecting something different?

Serial number 63248X
I doubt that. I suspect the serial number is K63248X. That would be a correct 1965 serial number for a Model 17-2. The K is part of the serial number. Without it, 63248X would be a pre-World War II serial number, and the Model 17 did not exist at that time.

Oh, yes. I must agree with the others who posted here. The gun is nice, and the stocks are both period correct and beautiful. A terrific acquisition on your part. Congrats!

Correct, under the grips the number had K prefix!
Noticed it this monday.

I'm not sure if you're looking for information, or just showing us your new treasure.

The 17-2 was produced between 1961 and 1967. The box appears to be marked Smith & Wesson Incorporated and would be correct for a gun that shipped before 1965-66. It should have an upside-down end label on the lid with the specifications.

That pre-dates Bangor Punta (mid-1960's to the mid-1980's). Looks right as rain and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
