jdpress, your 19-1 was most likely shipped in or around 1961. I own K465xxx, which was shipped on 11/1/1962. Your condition estimate sounds conservative, but it is hard to pinpoint without seeing it in person. As mentioned, later 95% 19s usually fetch $350-$450, so a 19-1 would bring a significant premium, though less than a Pre-19. I hope that helps.

If you decide to sell it (I wouldn't if I were you), please let me know.

Looks like a dandy, I've got 2 19's. A 4" and 21/2" paid 500.00 each.
Saw at a gun show last week a new in the box 19-3 non fired as shipped from factory everything included along with a S&W letter of history. the guy wanted 1000.00 I didn't pursue it.

You never WILL run into them for that price either.
This thread started TWO YEARS ago, and the 750- 850 price Bill put on it would be about double now.
So, if you find a whole package as shown in pics for 850, my advice would be buy it.

The stocks on this gun shown would bring up to almost half the value of that 750...........

I have a 19-1,serial # k4584xx,according to standard catalog is around 1961. is there any new info. on number of 19-1's produced and how rare they really are and also current values as of 2014.

I don't believe anyone knows how many 19-1s have been produced and I am not aware of anyone keeping track of how many have been reported. Generally, this model variation was only shipped in 1962 and is what I would call "scarce". I am not current on pricing, but the one I have is 99 percent or better and I would not sell it for less that $1600 (if I was to offer it for sale).

NIB with docs and tools in perfect cond maybe $1500 to the right buyer but gun only in super high cond IMO $900 tops.

We had a 19-1 sell for $600 two years ago and a VG+ condition no box for $895 like two weeks ago IIRC .
We also had a 19-1 in shooter grade cond with cosmetic issues advertise for $800 but did not sell .

Blue Book lists the 2014 price for a 95% 19-1 at $1050. A 98% is $1600. I would say yours is certainly between those with at least $50 - 100 for the box with tools. If you are going to buy/sell on any regular basis, an online subscription is well worth the money.

Someone would really need to fill a gap in the collection which is closer to $850 for just the gun in high condition IMO.

The OP gun was LNIB with everything original in 2008 but back then they were much less.

Nothing mystical the transitional 19-1 is a leftover 4 screw frame with the new R hand threaded ejector rod and cylinder.

The 19-1 has the improved extractor rod and stem with a left-hand thread and 4-screw frame. This model variation doesn't generate the interest and value of a 29-1, but it is probably as scarce. I looked for many years before I found the one I have.

Glad this one popped to the top--that's the third -1 box I've seen with that tinted ink on the label--not sure of the significance, but feeling better about the one (27-1 6 1/2") I have.

Just to provide full disclosure, I purchased this revolver new when I was in college at the Stanford Sport Shop in Palo Alto in 1960 or 1961.

I gave it to my wife after we were married in 1967 when I was an Army Infantry officer. We are still married 52 years later and she still has this revolver although she has not fired it in many years. Our youngest son who is a General in the Army and carries a Sig M18 will probably assume ownership of this family heirloom soon.

I purchased the target hammer and trigger directly from Smith & Wesson and had them installed by the gunsmiths at Kings Gun Works in Glendale, California. I selected Kings after I had them rework a Colt Commander 1911 and I was very pleased with the quality of their work. I had purchased the Colt Commander from a gun shop in Phenix City, Alabama, just across the Chattahoochee River from Fort Benning, Georgia for $72.50

I carried the Colt Commander for field assignments in the Army including 13 months in Vietnam as an advisor to a Vietnamese Infantry Battalion. I am glad that I chose to carry the Colt instead of this Smith & Wesson revolver!

I'm glad it was resurrected too...I didn't notice at first how old the thread was. The first reply giving value I about fell out of my seat, was like WTH! Mine is a Nickel gun but I paid $1800 and have been offered as much as $2500 for it (it isn't going anywhere). God knows what it will be worth in another 20 years.

I do think values are a little down right now but
Rare ones like the on mentioned above are going to command a premium.

I have a box with the end label that looks like "pink ink" also. It's a -1 gun from March '63. I've seen other box end labels from that time frame (early 60's) with the same color ink. I think(just guessing here)that it was blue ink to start with that faded out ? I'm sure these were some of the first end labels used also as I've only seen this "pink ink" on -1's & early -2 box labels
