Picked up a 19-3 and wanted I change to pachmayr grips. I found some new old stock and bought them.

Problem is the screw hits the mainspring. This mean it's been changed or the grips are mismarked?

No idea, other than the grip's not for a K-frame. I have several Pachs on square-butt K-frames, and they all fit fine. Maybe it's something specific to the round butt.

Same happened to me with a defferent Pachmayr. Threw it away.
Also on a $$$$ Nill. THAT one went back.
For a rubber K-Frame grip, its hard to beat the Uncle Mike's.
S&W are still closing them out at $14.95 in their online store.

That mainspring doesn't look to have near enough curve to it. Are you sure the strain screw is tightened down? Is there a possibility someone has shortened the strain screw? The grips are not S&W grips, so the grip screw placement may not be correct.

Is the main spring strain screw tightened all the way in?

I encountered that once with a set of Pach's that would not go on a buddies gun, he had done the "classic" maneuver of backing out the screw to lighten the DA pull.

A few turns of the screwdriver arched the spring so the grip screw cleared.

update: LOL... just saw H Richard beat me to the punch by minutes... after looking more closely at the strain screw tip, it doesn't look like there is as much protruding past the threads as a normal one, I'm voting it's a shortened screw.

This how the spring should look:

Tighten/replace the strain screw and if the spring is still too close, Pachmayr makes screws with a thinned-down middle section to provide more clearance.

Strain screw is all the way tight.

Factory were on it as well as a set of rosewood grips. I think the new grip is incorrect. All the other picture I have seen the screw is below the medallion

That's a different type of grip. Yours is fine. You need to get a new strain screw.

Others have given you good advice. There is nowhere near enough arch to the mainspring. Since I cannot see the strain screw head I have to assume someone has shortened the strain screw. I would be really surprised if the gun reliably lights primers. Likewise I would be surprised if the gun can be cocked for single action without problems.

You get a new strain screw in the gun and I will bet the stocks are just fine! Look inside the stocks with a light, I bet it says SWKR. They are correct for the gun, there is nothing Pachmayr makes grips for that would fit a round butt K-Frame properly, and look right.
