Model 19 Question, hole in the frame

I've seen a few with this same hole and I assume it was a factory jig mounting hole. Is this common?
Yes, it is a jig hole. And yes, it was common during the first half of the 1950s. Yours is about as late as I've seen. In my experience, most of the model marked units don't have the jig hole.

Thanks, Guy. I had not seen that list.

On the K frames, I know I have a K-22 that shipped in January 1958, with no model number, that has the jig hole. I have a few other K frames from 1958-1961, but I don't recall whether the jig hole is present on those. I'll have to pull them from the safe, remove the stocks and check. That will be an interesting exercise.

I see it also has the adjustable trigger stop. Agencies removed them after reports of them getting loose, shifting and preventing the trigger from coming completely to the rear.

Don't know when S&W stopped installing them..but I liked mine for bullseye competition.

I have a K-22 Masterpiece from November 1949 that has the jig hole. I have a Model 53 from May 1961 that does not.

In late 1959, S&W changed its tooling for aligning the grip frame during manufacturing with the elimination of the jig hole in the grip frame. I assume this occurred at the same time for N and K frames, but am not certain about the latter.

1959/60 - Hole in the grip frame used to secure the frame during manufacturing was deleted. This was at c. #S196000 on N-frames.

Thanks - it's funny that I never noticed them before. I have a bunch of N frames and K frames from the 50's, I'll check them when I get a chance.

Mainly I wanted to make sure Ol' Bubba didn't get an urge to hang his lucky rabbit's food on my prize. :)

At this point if you remove the "shoe" you will still have screw marks on the trigger. At one point in that shooters life the "shoe" was a custom add on. Unless you can't live w/ it,I'de just leave it. jmtcw

My 19 locked up like that when using it to shoot a raccoon while squirrel hunting......I turned it into the frame and locked it down very tight......No more problems.
