I got a used model 19 and the sight was bent. I got a replacement but it appears the channel the sight goes in is a little tight. Does anyone have any ideas of how to open the channel up a little with out over widening it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Make sure the channel is cleaned real good-make sure there aren't any dings along the sides. If there is I would use an indian stone or similar just to carefully clean up the dinged up area.

Otherwise I would do the stoning on the sight itself rather than the gun if you can find no dents or dings.

Put a steel straight edge along the bottom of the slot that the sight sits in and along the side(s) of that slot. You want to confirm that the top strap is not bent.

Take a real close look when checking and see if there is any arch or dip in the otherwise machined straight cut edges and flats.

Eyeball/sight along the empty rear sight slot. Sometimes that's an even better way to see a bent top strap or see any other slight damage to it.
