Need some help with this one. I have been going through some old U.K Weller & Dufty gun auction catalogues from the 1970's and 1980's.

One of the lots is a .45 Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector revolver s/n 60693.
United States Property stamped under the 5 1/2 inch barrel. Then it states, 'bearing broad arrow marks and inspection stamps, with checkered grips bearing gold medallions'.

I assume the grips are a replacement.

As we know the British got just over 20,000 of these in July 1940 through the big $37 million deal through the U.S. Steel Corp. The 20,000 in British service ended-up being split 50/50 between the Air Ministry and being sent to the middle east. A very few of the Air Ministry guns marked with a crown over A.M have surfaced. However, I have never seen a British ordnance marked one like this, and I have been looking for years.
Can anyone tell me if the serial number provides any useful information.
more importantly has anyone seen a similarly marked 1917?

Regards
